Operations
About the Role
The Yard & Team Manager ensures the smooth running of our service yard and facilities, making sure our vans, tools, and teams are ready to deliver excellence every day. You'll be the first point of control each morning -- running van checks, coordinating equipment, and making sure everyone leaves the yard fully set up.
This role combines hands-on responsibility with operational management: building physical systems for tools and racking, creating processes for breakages and repairs, and supporting teams with real-time pick-ups and drop-offs during the day.
It's suited to someone with a multi-skilled or facilities background who's ready to step up into leadership. You'll be embedded in the yard, but part of the wider Ops team -- bridging the gap between the tools and the management layer.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Yard Operations
Manage the morning running of the yard, ensuring all teams depart on time with the correct vans, tools, and equipment.
Conduct daily van checks (fuel, cleanliness, safety, load compliance).
Be the on-hand contact for tool/equipment pick-ups and drop-offs during the day.
Tools & Equipment Management
Build and maintain physical racking and storage systems for tools and equipment.
Create and enforce processes for allocation, return, and reporting of breakages.
Keep accurate digital records of all tools and equipment.
Oversee small repairs and escalate replacements when required.
Systems & Process Development
Design and implement yard and tool management systems for efficiency and reliability.
Ensure yard operations align with scheduling needs and dispatch requirements.
Support daily job readiness in coordination with the Trade Service Manager, Bookings & Dispatch Controller, and Sales Account Managers.
Team & Cross-Department Support
Be the physical and logistical support point for service teams throughout the day.
Collaborate with the wider ops and sales teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
Work with management to continuously improve efficiency and minimise downtime.
Skills & Experience

Hands-on and practical, confident with physical tasks (lifting, moving, minor repairs).
Leadership skills with proven experience managing or supervising others.
Ability to balance physical presence with system/process management.
Desirable:
Knowledge of vehicle compliance and van checks.
Familiarity with digital scheduling/logging systems (Excel, Monday.com, ServiceOS).

Proactive and solutions-focused.
Disciplined and reliable with a strong work ethic.
Calm under pressure, able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
Team-first attitude, leading by example.
Practical thinker with a "management head" -- able to design systems as well as execute them.
