Responsible to
Senior Group Co-ordinator
Purpose of the role
To deliver family group support services including:
provision of play/educational activities to promote children's learning and development
parental support and guidance to support children's wellbeing
supervision and support for group volunteers
to work alongside the Senior Group Co-ordinator in the development and delivery of group support
Key responsibilities:
Supporting the work of the scheme
Undertake work as delegated by the senior member of staff to support the strategic management, development and future funding of the scheme.
Support the implementation and review of all Home-Start policies and procedures.
Ensure inclusion, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the project's operation and work.
Comply with the scheme's administration and monitoring systems.
Promote the work of the project and the scheme as required by the senior member of staff. This may occasionally include attending promotional events and/or meetings.
Keep up to date with current scheme issues, engage in regular supervision with the Senior Group Co-ordinator, undertake statutory and continued professional development training.
Undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of the adults and children you come into contact with.
Support for families
Run a weekly group for parents and their young children providing a non-judgemental, safe space for children to play and for parents to feel welcomed and listened to.
Plan and provide a range of stimulating activities appropriate to children's age and stage of learning and development.
Ensure health and safety requirements are met, accidents/incidents are recorded and reported appropriately, risk assessments are in place and updated on a regular basis.
Process referrals and contact families to encourage access to the group session.
Make initial contact with families to assess their needs, review on a regular basis and at the end of support.
Provide ongoing support to ensure continuing engagement of families and attendance at group.
Communicate with families via social media - manage a Facebook page and 'closed group'; post regular updates; manage Eventbrite bookings for the group.
Introduce and signpost parents to appropriate external support and local facilities.
Maintain an accurate attendance register and note any significant observations or conversations relating to a child or parent.
To respond, record and report appropriately all Safeguarding Children/Child Protection issues
Managing volunteers
Oversee volunteer interaction with parents and children at group sessions.
Provide support and on-going training opportunities and regular supervision for volunteers.
Working in Partnership
Work in close co-operation with other scheme staff and volunteers as directed by the Senior Group Co-ordinator.
Ensure appropriate liaison and communication with referrers and other professionals.
Monitoring, evaluation, and service development
Process information using the Home-Start (CHAMS) database, Charitylog, ensuring family records are informative, accurate and kept up to date.
Identify levels of family need, assess change in need/ability to cope and record outcomes using the Charitylog database.
Obtain to photographic, written and verbal feedback from families who attend the group.
The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above. This may include covering other Co-ordinator's groups from time to time.
This job description is not exhaustive, it will form part of the Staff Annual Appraisal and may be changed after negotiation, according to the needs of Home-Start CHAMS.
