About the role



We are looking to appoint a Family Liaison, Safeguarding & Behaviour Office on a permanent contract starting ASAP depending on pre-employment checks.

The successful candidate will work within Avonwood as part of the pastoral team, under the general direction of the Headteacher who is responsible for the overall policy of the educational programme and for matters of control and discipline within the school.

Your main responsibilities will be supporting our pupils and families with their pastoral needs. Liaising with families to help support both them and their children and to be Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead working alongside our DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead). Your daily in-tray will include supporting families during separation, working with children suffering from trauma, supporting our nurture interventions, leading small workshops and being the first response to any behaviour incidents. You will work very closely with the Deputy Headteacher / DSL to support with all aspects of safeguarding & pastoral life at Avonwood. We have recently opened a beautiful new 'Well-being hub' at the centre of the school that will become home to the successful candidate.

This attractive role is term time only working all inset days and an additional paid 2 weeks which will be used to provide on call holiday cover for safeguarding concerns when school is closed to pupils. This cover will be on a rota basis as agreed with the Headteacher. Whilst the role sits outside of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will be working closely with SLT to support our most vulnerable children and families.

About You



We are looking to appoint an individual with the following attributes:

highly motivated to support children with their behavioural needs ensuring they make progress and fulfil their potential kind, caring and highly approachable personality - keen to be a positive advocate for those in need experience of working with children and families with complex pastoral needs, often in crisis experience of working closely with families and outside organisations keen to work in a supportive learning environment as part of our excellent Pastoral and SEND team enjoys being part of a hardworking and supportive staff team, always a team player aware and experienced in trauma informed approaches prior experience of working in a safeguarding role would be preferable. Including experience of liaising with Children's Social Care by making referrals, attending meetings and escalating concerns when required willing to conduct home visits to support families and pupils in need seeking a challenging yet highly rewarding and impactful position. confident to have professional but robust and uncomfortable conversations with families and other professionals when required inquisitive by nature

You must have:

GCSE Maths and English grade C/4 or above, a high degree of initiative, problem solving and sound judgement when working with children and their families, Prior experience of working in an education setting in a role that involved safeguarding. Able to work in the strictest of confidence A highly professional yet approachable persona

You may have:



DSL / Level 3 Safeguarding training is desirable but not essential as this course will be provided. May suit someone with prior experience in social care looking for a school-based role May suit someone with teaching experience, looking for a different role in education Various qualifications in pastoral related areas - e.g. ACES, Trauma, Restorative Behaviour Management, Team Teach
