We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Family Support Worker to support children and families through practical, emotional, and relationship-based work. The role involves supervising family time, completing direct work with children and parents, and providing consistent support to families in line with assessed needs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting family stability, strengthening parenting capacity, and supporting positive outcomes for children. This is a paid role and requires a genuine commitment to working with children and families, including flexibility to provide support at varying times in response to family need.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise family time (contact) between children and parents, ensuring sessions are safe, supportive, and child-focused
Complete direct work with children and parents to support emotional wellbeing, attachment, routines, and parenting skills
Provide practical and emotional support to families experiencing social, emotional, or practical difficulties
Offer guidance around parenting strategies, child development, behaviour management, and establishing consistent routines
Conduct home and community-based visits to assess family needs and support agreed plans
Support families with day-to-day challenges including budgeting, routines, appointments, and accessing local services
Signpost and liaise with community resources including health, education, social care, and voluntary services
Work collaboratively with professionals such as social workers, educators, therapists, and healthcare providers
Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records in line with organisational policies and data protection requirements
Provide responsive support to families, including occasional evening or weekend work where required to meet family needs
Skills and Experience
Experience working with children, young people, or families is highly desirable
Understanding of child development, attachment, and behaviour management
Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children and adults
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental approach to working with diverse families
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Flexibility to adapt to changing family needs and service demands
