The opportunity
Obsidian is a new Supported Living Service (Obsidian Supported Living) for adults with a Learning Disability, Autism, Emotional and/or behaviours of concern. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission to deliver personal care for the people we support.
We are looking for Support Staff who have experience in providing people with a service that will safeguard and protect the people receiving support, and enhance their opportunities and experiences to maximise quality of life, outcome and inclusivity in our society.
As this is a new service, the appointed person has the opportunity to grow, shape and become a leader in the service in the best interests of the people we support. The Registered Manager (RM) has over 25 years of experience in the sector. The director/nominated individual (NI) has over 23 years' experience of working in NHS mental health services. The deputy manager has over 10 years of personal and career experience in social care.
There may be, dependent on the growth of the service and performance of the individual, the opportunity for the successful candidate to take on more responsibilities and a senior operational role in time.
The service will focus on those people needing support who could be regarded as complex cases, which might include behaviours of concern and/or have complex associated physical health conditions. Experience in supporting people with a history of challenging behaviour is essential.
Pay will rise commensurate with growth in qualifications, experience and size of the company. This is an excellent opportunity for frontline support staff to grow, shape and develop a brand-new service under the supervision and support of the RM.

Key Responsibilities
To contribute to all aspects of CQC compliance
To help create capacity to provide care for people e.g. by engaging in suitably designed transition plans
Efficiently manage and deliver care in the day to day running of the service you work in
To deliver on your respective duties and responsibilities. You will receive support to carry out your roles safely
Completion of risk assessments for people we support, in all aspects of their day to day life. Feedback risk assessments and key information relating to risk in real time, to the RM
Contribute to marketing, advertising and growth of the service
Holding a full UK/EU driving license with access to your own car for transport purposes is essential. Mileage incurred during and in the course of business will be paid
Main Duties
Service Delivery
Ensure safe delivery and the day-to-day functioning of the service
To deliver on our Statement of Purpose
Be personally responsible for the safe delivery of the service in line with legislative requirements and company policy and procedures
Undertake training and development to keep up to date with the law, best practice and changes in company policy, CQC regulations and government legislation. Apply this knowledge to day-to-day management and delivery of care
To ensure full participation in induction and ongoing training including all mandatory training
To maintain good communication systems, including handovers and logbooks
Participate in regular supervision, staff meetings and away days
Understand and monitor health and safety in the workplace. Alert the RM of any concerns immediately
Maintain full and accurate records and reporting systems in accordance with legal requirements and to ensure the effective running of the service
Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure the safe delivery of the service
Provide an excellent service to the people we support
Promote the rights of each person we support, and keep their wishes at the centre of their care and support
Contribute to a written individually tailored care support plan, that respects the person's wishes and promotes their dignity and privacy
Implement agreed appropriate risk control measures to reduce identified risks
To be aware of DoLs and/or Court of Protection legislation (training will be provided)
Provide the person receiving support, and where appropriate their representatives, with information about the service so that they are clear about what to expect and how they can raise any concerns
Apply excellent communication skills with people receiving support, their families and representatives, staff and other health and social care professionals to deliver high quality services
Keep all information about people receiving support and their families secure and confidential
To ensure fire drills and fire testing are carried out and recorded as required - work with the landlord to do this
To ensure specific needs are met, such as dietary requirements, religious observance and culturally significant activities for the people receiving support
Engage in appraisals with your RM
Engage in staff supervision with your RM
Professional Engagement
Effectively manage and record complaints and incidents and inform the RM
Ensure attendance at induction to the service in line with company requirements.
Comply with and complete all assigned mandatory training
Read all policies assigned to you
Take personal accountability of your ongoing training needs and ensure the RM is made aware of any knowledge gaps so we can help address these
Raise concerns with your RM or NI about any safety and/or quality concerns immediately
Implement company policy and procedures in relation to all matters of service delivery, safety and quality
To ensure that your annual leave requests are adequately recorded on company HR systems to ensure that the correct information is processed
Contributing to the Company
Participate in the growth and development of the business. Work with the senior team collaboratively to achieve this
Buy into a culture of continuous improvement, learning from mistakes and near misses for the benefit of the people we support
Using and Managing Resources
To maintain a safe environment for the person receiving support, complying with health and safety and other legal requirements
Encourage and support the person receiving support to take care of their home and make best use of the available resources
To help people receiving support to access community resources
Monitor the fabric of people's homes (including fixtures, amenities and grounds) and contact the landlord (and the RM) with any concerns.
Contributing to rotas which fit best with person's support needs, and ensure proper handovers between shifts

Contribute to your own personal and professional development through the appropriate completion of duties and responsibilities
Adhere to the code of conduct/confidentiality in the office and at people's homes and be respectful of colleagues, working cohesively

Attend external meetings where necessary and represent the service in a positive manner
