Time Out Holiday Camps operate as day holiday camps for children aged 4-13, running from 8:00am to 4:00pm during all school holiday periods, including February half-term, Easter, May half-term, summer holidays, October half-term, and the December holidays.
This role is part-time, involving a small number of hours per week during camp weeks only, delivering fencing sessions as part of our wider activity programme.
Role Overview
Time Out Holiday Camps is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and child-focused Fencing Coach to deliver engaging, safe, and high-quality fencing sessions to children aged 4-13 during school holidays.
This is a hands-on coaching role suited to someone who is passionate about fencing and enjoys introducing children to the sport in a fun, structured, and inclusive way. Sessions will focus on skill development, confidence, coordination, and enjoyment rather than competition.
The Fencing Coach will plan and deliver age-appropriate sessions, manage small groups, and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and professionalism while working alongside the wider camp team.
Key Responsibilities
Fencing Session Delivery
Plan and deliver fun, structured, age-appropriate fencing sessions for children aged 7-13.
Introduce fundamental fencing skills, footwork, coordination, and basic tactics in an engaging way.
Adapt sessions to suit varying ages, abilities, and levels of experience.
Encourage confidence, discipline, respect, and positive participation.
Ensure all sessions are inclusive, enjoyable, and safely delivered.
Child Supervision & Welfare
Maintain high standards of behaviour management using positive, consistent strategies.
Supervise children safely at all times during fencing activities.
Build positive relationships with children, promoting inclusion and emotional wellbeing.
Follow all safeguarding, health & safety, and risk assessment procedures.
Professional Conduct
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity.
Work collaboratively with camp leaders and other activity instructors.
Communicate clearly with the Camp Manager regarding attendance, behaviour, and any concerns.
Assist with setting up, checking, and safely storing fencing equipment.
Essential Experience & QualitiesRequired
Experience working with children aged 4-13 (e.g. coaching, schools, clubs, camps).
Experience coaching or instructing fencing at a beginner or youth level.
Confidence leading small groups of children independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A positive, calm, and engaging coaching style.
A clear understanding of safeguarding and child welfare.
Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Desirable
Recognised fencing coaching qualification (or working towards one).
Experience delivering fencing in schools or holiday camps.
First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training).
Experience adapting sports sessions for younger children or mixed-ability groups.
