Job Overview
World - UK Operator is seeking highly motivated Field Staff (Orb Operators) to join our team delivering the Worldcoin digital identity program in London. In this role, you will act as a brand ambassador and frontline operator for the World.org World ID project, working independently at busy public locations. You will engage with members of the public, educating them about Worlds mission and benefits, and assisting them in completing sign-ups using the Orb - a specialized biometric device used for secure iris verification. This position requires excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to clearly convey complex information in a friendly, concise manner. Full training on the World Orb and onboarding process will be provided, and you will report directly to a Regional Program Manager. This is a zero-hours contract role with flexible shifts (part-time or full-time hours available), ideal for personable self-starters with customer-facing or sales experience.
Key Responsibilities
Public Engagement: Approach and engage with people at designated high-footfall locations in London. Clearly educate the public about the World/World ID initiative, its mission and benefits, and address questions to encourage sign-ups .
Onboarding & Verification: Guide new users through the sign-up process - from helping them install/use the World app on their phone to securely verifying their World ID using the Orb device. Ensure each user understands the process and feels comfortable during the quick iris scan for identity verification .
Operate Orb Equipment: Set up and manage the Orb station each shift, ensuring the device is functioning correctly and securely. Handle the Orb with care and follow all operational protocols.
Data Privacy & Compliance: Uphold strict GDPR and data protection standards at all times. The Orb's verification process is privacy-preserving (it confirms a user's uniqueness without retaining images or personal data ), and you will ensure users' data is handled in accordance with UK GDPR compliance guidelines.
Performance & Reporting: Work towards daily/weekly sign-up targets by actively encouraging participation. Provide relevant feedback or issues to the Regional Program Manager.
Customer Service: Provide a friendly, professional experience for all users. Address any concerns or objections with clear factual information. If needed, troubleshoot basic issues (e.g. app installation problems) and guide users patiently through to completion of onboarding.
Feedback & Improvement: Collect informal user feedback on the sign-up experience and relay insights to the team to help improve outreach strategies or the onboarding process. Adapt your approach as needed based on training and guidance to maximize engagement.
Qualifications and Skills
Excellent Communication: Proven ability to communicate clearly and confidently with the public. You can simplify and convey complex concepts in straightforward, relatable terms, even in a busy environment.
People Skills: Outgoing, approachable, and comfortable initiating conversations with strangers. A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills are a must for encouraging people to participate.
Sales/Promotional Experience: Preferred: Prior experience in face-to-face sales, street promotions, charity fundraising, door-to-door canvassing, or similar customer-facing roles. You excel at persuasive communication and handling objections tactfully.
Self-Motivated & Reliable: Able to work independently and manage a solo station responsibly. Driven to meet goals, with good time-management and reliability to adhere to shift schedules and reporting requirements.
Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using smartphone apps and able to quickly learn to operate the Orb device (training provided). Capable of guiding others through a simple app-based onboarding on their own phones.
Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment. Can maintain professionalism and composure amid crowds or adverse weather (as some locations may be outdoors or in public spaces). Problem-solving skills to address minor issues on the fly.
Integrity & Compliance: Trustworthy and conscientious. Must follow data privacy, security, and safety protocols precisely. (Knowledge of GDPR or handling sensitive data in past roles is a plus.)
Education: No specific degree required. However, strong literacy and numeracy skills are expected. Fluent English is required; additional language skills are a bonus in London's diverse environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Pay + Bonus: Base pay at UK National Minimum Wage (hourly) on a zero-hours contract. Generous performance bonuses are offered for each successful verification/onboarding completed. On average, field staff can earn approximately 100-250 per day depending on sign-up volume (uncapped commission potential for high performers).
Training: Comprehensive training provided on the World World ID platform, Orb device operation, compliance procedures, and effective outreach techniques. You will be fully prepared before working independently. Ongoing coaching and support will be available as needed.
Equipment & Uniform: All necessary equipment and materials are provided, including the Orb device, a tablet (if required), and informational brochures. A company-branded uniform T-shirt is provided (casual dress code otherwise - you may wear jeans/shorts and comfortable trainers suitable for standing and engaging the public).
Flexible Schedule: Work on a flexible, self-scheduled basis. Shifts are available across morning, day, or evening slots to fit your availability. Both part-time and full-time hours can be accommodated week-to-week, offering you control over your schedule.
Work Environment: Opportunity to work in dynamic public settings across London, rather than being stuck behind a desk. Each day brings new interactions and the satisfaction of contributing to an innovative global project.
Support & Growth: You'll have a direct line to a Regional Program Manager for guidance and will be part of a forward-thinking team at the forefront of digital identity and financial inclusion. High-performing individuals may earn additional responsibilities or advancement opportunities as the project grows.
