Job Description

Field Studies Tutor with The Cranedale Centre

We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is eager to learn and who

will need to excel in their teaching of fieldwork to students. The successful candidate will be

required to enthuse, engage and educate pupils of all ages and backgrounds in amazing places of

natural wonder and beauty.

About us

We are a small, friendly, educational charitable trust in North Yorkshire specialising in

providing high quality academic fieldwork in geography, ecology and environmental studies for

A-level, GCSE and primary pupils. Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and surrounded by

quiet countryside, the Cranedale Centre seeks to offer the very best learning experience

possible for our visitors.

The Job

The Field Studies Tutor will take a full and active role in the tutoring of all student groups

and will be required to teach on all educational courses, at all levels, from KS2 Environmental

Studies to A-level Geography and Ecology.

A typical week might start with checking small mammal traps with A-level biologists and then

undertaking ecological fieldwork with them at a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve. The

following days could be spent teaching human geography fieldwork in Scarborough with A-level

geographers, investigating 'place' or examining urban microclimates. You could also find

yourself teaching primary pupils orienteering in Dalby Forest or exploring rock pools and sea

caves at Flamborough Head.

This is a post with a lot of variety and interest as the Field Studies Tutor will be involved

in both the planning and delivery of field studies days as well as developing resources within

the education department. We teach groups for around 9 months of the year and during these

times the tutor will be required to be on a duty rota and typically will deliver 1-2 evening

activities per week. During August, December and much of January we are closed to schools and

the tutor will spend these periods developing resources, undertaking staff training and taking

longer periods of annual leave.
