We're excited to offer a new opportunity for a Finance Assistant Apprentice, based in the South West
to work alongside our experienced Finance Business Partner, developing transferrable skills in a supportive environment.
As a Finance Assistant Apprentice, you will gain experience across a wide range of finance and accounting tasks, from managing client invoicing to preparing financial reports.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll receive remote mentoring and structured tutoring from your apprenticeship training provider. This role is suited to individuals with prior experience in finance looking to build on their existing knowledge and skills.
You'll work from home and travel to work collaboratively on occasion, typically within the South West.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance Business Partner you'll play an active role in the day-to-day running of our finance operations and contribute to meaningful work that supports both our clients and internal teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
Manage client invoicing, ensuring accuracy and timely issue through the accounting system.
Prepare invoicing schedules and verify associated timesheet and expense data.
Process supplier invoices and credit notes, ensuring accuracy and proper approval.
Prepare weekly payment runs, reconcile outstanding amounts, and ensure payments meet agreed terms.
Onboard new employees, suppliers, customers, and projects in the accounting system with complete documentation.
Post monthly journals for accruals, prepayments, and other adjustments.
Review employee expenses for policy compliance prior to approval.
Produce basic financial reports to support management and internal reviews.
Respond to finance queries and escalate complex issues as needed.
Support finance administration and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
In your first 3-6 months, success might look like:
Confidently managing routine finance processes with accuracy and attention to detail.
Building a strong understanding of our accounting systems and procedures.
Developing positive working relationships across the Finance team and wider business.
Applying knowledge from your apprenticeship training to real-world finance tasks.
Demonstrating initiative and ownership over your workload.
Skills & experience required
Previous experience in finance, accounting or bookkeeping role.
Experience using financial software such as Xero, Quickbooks, or FreeAgent (NetSuite preferred but not essential).
AAT Level 2 qualification is desirable but not essential.
A love for learning
High attention to detail and accuracy with excellent communication skills
Strong self-motivation, able to work independently, especially in a remote environment.
Willingness and ability to work from home and travel, as required, to team and all staff meetings generally in the South West.
Current right to live and work in the UK.
