GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates is a nationally recognised, multi-office, multi-service firm known for its commitment to access to justice and excellence in client care. We are now looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Finance Team to support the smooth day-to-day running of the firm's financial operations.
The Role
This is a varied and hands-on support role within a busy finance department. Working primarily from home, you will assist with core finance tasks including processing payments, maintaining financial records, supporting internal reporting, and ensuring compliance with financial procedures. You'll work closely with our accounts team and liaise with staff across the firm. Occasional attendance at our Croydon office will be required for training, meetings, or specific tasks.
What We're Looking For
You should be organised, accurate, and comfortable working with numbers and systems. Previous experience in a finance or accounting support role is essential. Experience in a legal or professional services environment is helpful but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Processing invoices, expenses, and payments.
Supporting payment runs and reconciliations
Preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintaining fixed asset register.
Preparing accruals and prepayment journals.
Maintaining accurate financial records and data entry
Assisting with internal reporting and financial compliance tasks
Responding to finance-related queries from staff
Supporting credit control activity where needed
Assisting with audits and month-end processes
Providing general administrative support to the wider finance team
Bank / credit card reconciliations
Vat Returns

The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have previous experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role
Be highly numerate and methodical, with strong attention to detail
Be confident using Excel plus financial and case management software (training provided)
Be organised and able to work independently in a remote setting
Communicate clearly and professionally
Be a proactive team player, willing to learn and adapt
