The role
We are looking for a detailed and proactive Finance Assistant to join our small but dynamic finance team. You will play a key role in supporting day to day financial operations of the charity, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Here's what you can expect.
Processing day to day transactions
Process purchase invoice, sales ledger invoices and journals. Producing routine BACS runs.
Financial records
Maintain accurate financial records using Sage 50, completing reconciliations both within Sage 50 and using Excel spreadsheets
Effective communication
Liaise with suppliers, debtors and internal teams to resolve queries.
General administration
Ensure effective admin support for daily operations.

Qualifications and experience
Here's some of what we'd like you to have.
A good basic education and an excellent working knowledge of IT, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience of SAGE would be desirable.
At least 2 years' experience in a Finance role or significant demonstrable transferable skills. Experience of Payroll processing could be advantageous.
Excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise competing demands, and excellent communication skills.
We would ideally be looking for someone who is able to work at least core hours (10.00 - 15.00) on agreed set days.

Department Objectives
It is essential to the delivery of this mission that the Hospice and all of its subsidiaries; maintain a well organised sales and purchase ledger; pay their creditors within a set timescale; account for all income and expenditure accurately; and reports financial information in a useful format and in a timely manner.
Role within the Department
To maintain the purchase and sales ledgers, assist with data input into SAGE and into spreadsheets, and support the Finance Manager by providing accurate information.
Function and Responsibilities
Specific Objectives
This list is not intended to be exhaustive but is a guide to the duties to be undertaken
Maintain the purchase ledger for Katharine House and all subsidiary companies, so that all creditors are paid accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain the sales ledger for Katharine House and all its subsidiary companies. Assist department managers with information requests. Input journals mainly relating to the retail and the hospice companies. Input the income for the fundraising department. Ensure that accurate information is entered into the accounting system.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Purchase and Sales Ledger
Log supplier invoices onto the spreadsheet system and SAGE, send to managers for authorisation, and update onto SAGE.
Enter credit notes, and liaise with suppliers to resolve issues.
Enter the sales invoices from the Hospice and subsidiary companies.
Produce the BACS run, and ensure all invoices are signed in accordance with authorisation levels.
Prepare the remittances ready for sending to suppliers.
Produce individual cheques when required.
Produce BACS payment forms for direct individual payments.
Other Tasks and Responsibilities
Enter prepared Retail and Hospice journals onto SAGE.
Prepare and enter adjustment journals onto SAGE.
Prepare and enter other journals onto SAGE.
Using the bank payment and bank receipt method via the monthly income spreadsheet, enter all income and charges for the fundraising department.
Reconcile relevant banks on a weekly or monthly basis.
Carry out ad hoc reconciliations.
Complete spreadsheets as required.
Provide ad hoc information when required.
Provide ad hoc financial reports when required.
Work closely with other departments to maintain good communication.
Maintain the filing system.
The post holder will perform other duties not specified above but which are needed for the benefit of Katharine House Hospice, these may include, but are not limited to:
Assist all departments within Katharine House Hospice as necessary.
