As the

Finance Assistant - Tax

you will be responsible for the production and submission of all

tax returns to HMRC

for HS2 Ltd. The post will report into the Tax Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that all tax requirements are met including, gathering information to support tax calculations, drafting communications with HMRC, preparing for new taxes and change in tax law, record keeping, and settlement of tax.


About the role:



Preparation and submission of tax returns including monthly VAT returns, PAYE Settlement Agreement, Corporation Tax, Construction Industry Scheme, CT61 Company Interest, and other taxes Preparation and submission of the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) documents Preparation of the corporation tax provision note for the statutory accounts Assisting in the preparation of Checks of Employment Status for Tax (CEST) and undertake regular Off Payroll Worker (IR35) audits Working with the Travel and Payroll team to identify taxable travel and ensuring the correct tax treatment is applied. Provide tax advice and guidance to all areas of the the business as required Ensure that the Business Systems (including Oracle) are configured to enable efficient collection of information and production of reports/outputs required to meet tax submission requirements. Working closely with external tax advisors ensuring good value for money. Maintain robust processes and controls to manage tax across the business including driving continuous improvement. Work with DfT, HM Treasury, Centre of Tax Excellence as required to address and resolve any issues Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About you:



Skills:



Ability to extract information from accounting systems Ability to learn, understand and apply complex ideas. Ability to prepare clear calculations in excel. Ability to explain complex concepts, whether legal, financial or otherwise and influence all levels of internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge:



Significant experience of how to extract and process accounting information Understanding of how accounting systems operate and how to formulate and input accounting journals into such a system

Type of Experience:



Experience of working independently on complex tasks. Experience of successfully working with people of all levels of seniority in a large organisation including adapting verbal and written communications for individuals of differing seniority and expertise.
