Finance Controller

Job Description

About Inkfish Group

Inkfish Group is on a mission to reimagine children's services, helping local authorities deliver better outcomes for vulnerable children through innovative, sustainable and ethical business models.

Our specialist divisions, Inkfish Homes, Inkfish Care and soon Inkfish Education, operate at the intersection of care, accommodation and education, creating joined-up solutions that drive meaningful impact. Based in the heart of Brighton, we combine entrepreneurial energy with a deep sense of purpose.

If you're someone who thrives on bringing structure and strategy to ambitious ideas, this is your chance to help build the financial foundations of a growing, values-led organisation.

The Role

As Financial Controller at Inkfish, you'll be the financial linchpin of our fast-moving group. Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will operate across the business to ensure sound financial operations, robust controls and insightful reporting. This part-time role (approximately 20 hours/week) offers flexibility and the opportunity to shape the financial backbone of a mission-driven enterprise.

Responsibilities will include:

Oversee financial operations including bookkeeping, payroll, management accounts, cash flow monitoring.

Preparing timely monthly and quarterly financial reports and dashboards for executive review.

Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and financial models aligned with growth of our Homes / Care / Education divisions.

Ensure compliance: payroll oversight, VAT/other tax returns, liaison with external accountants/auditors.

Implement, maintain and improve internal financial systems, controls and processes across a growing group.

Support strategic planning and decision-making: investment analysis, growth scenarios, cost-efficiency opportunities.

Work cross-functionally with the leadership and operational teams to align financial outputs with mission / service outcomes.

Skills and Experience:

Professionally qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or with equivalent experience.

Experience in a small business, startup or scale-up environment--comfortable with ambiguity and hands-on execution.

Commercially minded: you can translate numbers into business insight, not just reports.

Excellent Excel/Google Sheets skills and familiarity with accounting software, experience of Xero is essential.

Highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage your ~20-hour week autonomously.

A values-driven individual who believes in the mission of Inkfish and wants to make a social impact through financial discipline and growth.

If this sounds like you and you're excited by the opportunity to bring financial leadership to a dynamic, mission-driven organisation in Brighton, we'd love to hear from you.
