The Permanent Division of Robert Half are privileged and excited to be working exclusively and on a retained basis with Willen Hospice to assist with the recruitment of a Director of Finance and Resources to lead the finance team based at their serene setting in Willen, Milton Keynes

Willen Hospice is well known across the area and provides free, compassionate care to adults in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas living with a life-limiting illness.

Their dedicated team provides specialist, personalised care to support patients and their family members, helping them to deal with the physical and emotional effects of both their illness and treatments.

The care which they provide gives real comfort, eases pain and reduces anxiety for patients and their loved ones. Willen work closely with GPs, hospitals, community nursing staff and social workers to ensure that care is practical, informed and supportive at all levels.

Willen is building a legacy to help care for patients earlier in their journey and provide 21st Century Hospice care. This project and the ongoing development of Willen Hospice is an integral and key deliverable for the Director of Finance and Resources when they join.

The Role

As Director of Finance and Resources you will report to the Chief Exec and wok closely with the Senior Management team to provide strategic financial leadership and, collectively with Senior Leadership colleagues and organisation leadership deliver the charity\'s strategic aims and objectives.

You will be responsible for developing and driving innovation and high performance finance, IT and facilities teams and taking a pivotal role in implementing change to meet the Hospices developing needs and aspirations.

Your advanced stakeholder management skills will allow you to develop and sustain successful strategic partnership with key stakeholders such as the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care Board (ICB) and other key agencies.

Day to day duties will consist of:

  • To lead and direct the finance function ensuring the delivery of high quality information, advice and financial services, ensuring the financial reporting system is adequate to meet all statutory obligations and the needs of the organisation
  • Contribute to the implementation of the strategic plan, providing specialist financial expertise and developing work programmes with SLT as appropriate to ensure the Hospice delivers its
  • Assess, manage and minimise financial and operational risk and overall responsibility for managing internal
  • To liaise with the Hospice\'s external auditors to ensure the timely production and presentation of year end accounts and annual reports.
  • To lead the budgeting and forecasting processes to provide realistic forecasts of financial performance ensuring that information on annual revenue and capital budgets allows for decisions to be made in a timely and effective
  • Act as the main point of contact for the Hospice Investment managers, and hold these to account ensuring the investment portfolio is managed in a way that ensures maximum return and appropriate risk.
  • Providing strategic leadership and direction for the organisation and the Finance, IT and facilities teams, influencing, engaging and inspiring positive action through compelling communication of vison and ambition, effectively leading and managing both organisation and local change.

Your Profile

You will be a Qualified Accountant ideally ACA or ACCA and with previous experience in a Senior Leadership role Finance Director or Head of Finance. You will have looked after core finance, Operational and IT functions and work with astutely and commercially in order to add value to the ongoing development of Willen to provide its services to the community. Previous experience working within a Charity based business would be a benefit with the ability to lead and develop a team whilst being close to the commercial numbers in order to meet the reporting and commercial needs of the business.
