Job Description


The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the institution\'s financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and compliance. They play a crucial role in ensuring the college\'s financial stability and strategic growth, while also contributing to the institution\'s mission of providing high-quality education.

The key responsibilities for the successful Finance Manager:

  • Financial Planning and Budgeting: Develop and oversee the college\'s annual budget, including forecasting, monitoring, and reporting on financial performance.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis for college leadership, trustees, and external stakeholders.
  • Cash Flow Management: Manage cash flow, investments, and banking relationships to ensure sufficient funds are available for college operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Audit and Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and college policies. Coordinate annual audits and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Grants and Funding: Identify and secure external funding opportunities, grants, and scholarships to support the college\'s financial sustainability and growth.
  • Risk Management: Assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, safeguarding the college\'s financial assets and reputation.
  • Financial Strategy: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the college\'s mission and goals.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

The successful Finance Manager will have:
  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Excel, accounting software, and financial modeling.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse environment.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities.

  • The successful candidate will be auto-enrolled into the School\'s defined contribution pension scheme.
  • The School holiday year runs from 1 January to 31 December. The Finance Manager is entitled to four weeks holiday plus bank holidays annually; in addition the successful candidate will be entitled to a further five days leave to cover the period surrounding the Christmas and New Year shutdown.
  • Lunch: The Finance Manager is entitled to take lunch in the dining room when the kitchens are open.
