Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow statements.
Deliver monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary.
Maintain accurate, compliant financial records in line with statutory requirements.
Provide regular financial reports to the leadership team and support regulatory submissions.
Monitor key financial KPIs including occupancy, staffing costs, and service profitability.
Payroll & Workforce Cost Control
Oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC requirements.
Manage PAYE, NI, and pension submissions.
Monitor agency and overtime costs, recommending efficiency improvements.
Invoicing & Income Management
Raise invoices for local authorities, NHS commissioners, and private clients.
Oversee credit control, resolving queries and managing debt recovery to protect cash flow.
Liaise with commissioners and funding bodies on payment matters.
Regulatory & Audit Compliance
Provide financial documentation and sustainability evidence during CQC and Ofsted inspections.
Coordinate external audits and maintain fully compliant financial records.
Safeguard service users' funds in line with internal policies.
Risk Management & Internal Controls
Implement and monitor strong internal controls to reduce financial risk.
Carry out financial risk assessments and present recommendations.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and legislation.
Strategic & Operational Support
Provide financial modelling and analysis for new service development and tenders.
Support senior leadership with cost-saving initiatives and long-term planning.
Contribute to strategic growth discussions at board and management level.
Skills & Experience
Professional accountancy qualification (
ACA, ACCA, CIMA
) or equivalent experience.
Previous finance experience within
health, social care, or education
sectors (preferred).
Strong knowledge of payroll, invoicing, and financial compliance.
Familiarity with CQC and Ofsted financial sustainability requirements.
Excellent IT skills, including accounting software and advanced Excel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
