An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join our team, reporting to the Head of Group Reporting. The successful individual will be responsible for the financial control, reporting and operational oversight of the energy portfolio within the Octopus Inheritance Tax Service (OITS).
The role will suit a candidate with strong consolidation skills and experience dealing with a portfolio of companies who relishes the prospect of contributing to a high performing group finance team. Equally important will be the ability to provide support and guidance to an accountant (direct report) as well as across multiple subsidiary finance teams, whilst also contributing as a member of the Finance Management Team.
The team:
The OITS Finance Team manages 3.5bn assets under management across several groups, with the largest being the Fern Group, comprising over 300 companies across multiple sectors including energy, fibre, healthcare, housebuilding and lending, managed by a combination of internal and external finance teams.
The team manages the group, statutory and bank reporting across the Fern Group, working closely with subsidiary finance teams to consolidate information and also with the Investment Team to provide useful analysis of the numbers.
You will also be part of the wider Finance function, a diverse team of 45 people operating across various business areas and specialisms.
Responsibilities include
Reporting
Develop a strong understanding of the Octopus Inheritance Tax Service products, in particular the Fern Group, operational teams within the business and the key drivers of performance.
In line with the Fern Group control framework, set strong processes within the energy portfolio and across subsidiary teams to ensure financial information is reported accurately and on time.
Review quarterly and annual consolidation of the energy portfolio, ensuring accounting policies are in place, applied appropriately and revised as necessary.
Take ownership of bank covenant reporting across the energy portfolio, ensuring all reporting is delivered accurately and on time.
Ensure all statutory and regulatory reporting is accurate and deadlines are met.
Relationships
Build strong relationships with subsidiary finance teams and other internal teams, setting the reporting framework required to ensure accurate and timely information received.
Present financial results to stakeholders, including Head of Group Reporting, Finance Director, Investment Team and the Board.
Effective people management of 1 team member, including performance management and professional development, as well as providing support to other junior team members across the OITS team.
Other
Lead all transactions across the energy portfolio working closely with the investment team, ensuring accounting and tax steps are properly considered and well documented.
Lead audit process across the energy portfolio, ensuring audit recommendations are appropriately implemented and deadlines met.
Lead the annual budget process across the energy portfolio, reviewing subsidiary budgets prepared by internal and external finance teams, challenging assumptions to ensure consistency across the group.
Prepare technical papers for all transactions and changes to accounting standards relevant to the energy portfolio.
Assisting the Head of Group Reporting as required.
Qualifications
? An accountancy qualification is essential (ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
? Experience working in the renewable energy sector would be beneficial
? Strong consolidation skills are essential
? Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in confidently presenting and communicating financial information in a straightforward manner
