Job Description

Smart Money Cymru Community Bank is a progressive and growing financial cooperative providing affordable and ethical finance and banking services to communities in Wales. Smart Money is based in Caerphilly with additional offices in Blackwood, Newport, Tredegar, Aberdare, Brecon and Llandrindod Wells.

We are looking for a full time Finance Officer to work within our finance team based at our Caerphilly branch.

Working days are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours weekly with start/finish times to be agreed. Some out of hours work maybe required with prior notice provided.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:



Processing standing orders, benefit payments, payroll deductions and other daily transactions (downloads etc) Processing other inward and outward payments for members' accounts Preparing, scheduling and authorising BACS payments Maintenance and clearance of SMCCU suspense account(s) Processing supplier and other invoices for payment Maintenance of purchase ledger Assisting the Head Of Finance with month end and year end procedures Assisting the Head Of Finance with other accounting processes Assisting the Head Of Finance with anti-money laundering checks Assisting the Head Of Finance in any other duties required Working in collaboration with the Customer Services Team to ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions and data Development of appropriate processes and procedures as required from time-to-time for Customer Advisers and other staff handling financial transactions Providing training on financial procedures and processes for colleagues as required from time-to-time Provide cover for Customer Advisers as and when required Other duties that could be reasonably expected in this post in the best interest of the business Accurate and timely completion of the bank reconciliation to ensure that all transactions from the day before have been reconciled and any errors identified and rectified Deputising for the Head Of Finance as required Accurate and timely preparation of journals

Experience and competencies



Excellent numeracy skills Good literary skills Ability to deliver accurate financial processing and to meet strict processing deadlines Computer literate (use of Microsoft Office, particularly proficient in use of Execl spreadsheets) Excellent knowledge of Progress Systems or other standard credit union operating systems A formal accounting qualification such as AAT Level 2 is desirable but not essential Appreciation of and commitment to the overall aims and purpose of the credit union movement Able to communicate effectively and empathetically with members/customers, suppliers and other key contacts and colleagues Ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments Able to work in a busy office environment
