Your Role in Our Mission
As our Finance Officer, you will:
Oversee Ledger Functions
Manage Purchase, Sales, Cash, and Nominal Ledgers with precision using our Opera finance system.
Support invoice processing, suppliers, billing, reconciliations, and financial reports.
Deliver accurate and timely payments, remittances, and reconciliations.
Drive Billing & Credit Control
Ensure timely, accurate invoicing--especially for recurring services--liaising closely with teams to keep everything accurate and on schedule.
Handle collections, produce BACS files, process card payments, monitor aged debtors, and highlight deviations promptly.
Maintain Cash Accounting Excellence
Track bank balances, optimise transfers, and maximise interest potential.
Reconcile accounts monthly, manage petty cash, and maintain your authorised file registers and mandates.
Provide clear cash flow analysis and commentary to senior management.
Prepare Journals & Reports
Collate, verify, and process internal and external journal entries monthly and quarterly to align with our financial systems.
Support Key Administrative Tasks
Maintain organised filing systems for invoices, purchase orders, and banking documentation.
Assist with insurance claims, mobile phone and vehicle records, liaising with insurers and auditors as needed.
Manage Databases
Update and manage master finance databases weekly.
Support payroll by generating service upload files to maintain smooth workflows across departments.
Be Flexible and Collaborative
Undertake additional duties as required and adapt to the evolving needs of Capability Scotland's teams and services.
We're Looking for Someone Who:
Has solid experience with ledger accounting, reconciliations, cash handling, and invoicing (especially using Opera or similar finance systems).
Is detail-oriented, organised, and effective at cross-team communication--especially with services, suppliers, funders, and insurers.
Thrives on autonomy, accountability, and delivering financial insight with precision.
Is proactive, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to act decisively under financial constraints.
Has minimum 2 years experience in a similar role.
