The

Finance Officer

will provide day-to-day financial administration and support to ensure the smooth running of the school's finance function. Working closely with the School Accountant, or Financial Controller during the School Accountant's leave, the role will focus on processing transactions accurately, maintaining financial records, and to support reporting requirements in line with school policies and regulatory standards.

Main Responsibilities:



Contribute to month-end and year-end processes, including audit preparation, schedules, and supporting documentation, processing transactions in line with accounting standards, school policies, and Charity Commission requirements. Audit, reconcile, and maintain accurate records of house funds. Complete monthly bank reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner. Post monthly credit card transactions, obtain and file supporting receipts, and reconcile accounts, raising queries with the School Accountant where necessary. Provide support to the Purchase Ledger function of the bursary, including processing staff expenses, ensuring all transactions comply with school policies and procedures. Assist the School Accountant with the management of foreign exchange cards, including loading of such and obtaining and filing supporting receipts and reconciling accounts. Provide support to the School Accountant as required. Provide support to the Sales Ledger team during busy periods. Undertake finance administration tasks such as updating bank mandates and access. Support the bursary team and School Accountant in processing regular supplier and expense payments through BACS and PTX. Assist the School Accountant in preparing and submitting VAT returns, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Assist with the accounting for donations, Gift Aid, and other statutory or regulatory returns. Support the ongoing development and improvement of finance systems, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential



? AAT part or fully qualified (or equivalent experience)

? Experience of working within a finance team

? Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data

? Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software systems

? Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of financial work

? Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders

? Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

? High levels of integrity, professionalism, and trustworthiness

? Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines

? Flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to learn and contribute to continuous improvement

? Strong team player, able to collaborate effectively within a small, busy finance team

Desirable



? Experience using iSAMS, West Country Business Systems (PASS) or other educational management information/finance software (training will be provided for the right candidate)

? Previous finance experience within the education sector, ideally in an independent school

? Committed to safeguarding and child protection

The position is all year round, 25 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9am - 3pm). The salary will be within the range of 27,000 to 30,000 full time equivalent (

actual salary 19,170 - 21,300 per annum

) depending on experience and qualifications.

The start date is expected to be 1st December 2025.
