We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Officer to join our small charity finance team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing financial transactions, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and providing support for financial reporting. They will lead on payroll and will liaise with our external payroll agency. This position requires proficiency in various accounting software and a strong understanding of financial services. The role reports to the Head of Finance and Operations and is offered on a 6 month contract at a full time/full year salary of 30,000. Actual earnings over 6 months on 3 days or 22.5 hours per week is 9,600.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Processing
Process supplier invoices and ensure payments are made on time.
Raise and issue invoices to customers, funders, or other stakeholders.
Enter and reconcile bank transactions, credit card payments and other receipts.
Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using
Xero
.
Ensure correct coding of income and expenditure across departments and projects.
Payroll
Collect and check staff timesheets each month.
Liaise with the external payroll agency to prepare accurate payroll runs.
Make salary payments to staff through the bank.
Post monthly payroll journals into
Xero
.
Support staff with basic payroll queries.
Other Duties
Provide finance information for reports and audits when required.
Assist the Head of Finance and Operations with improvements to finance processes.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and support the Finance Assistant.
Ensure confidentiality and compliance with GDPR and other policies.
We are seeking someone with finance or accountancy qualifications or who are studying towards them and at least two years experience in a similar role. Experience of charity finance and of Xero would be a distinct advantage.
