Grenadier Packaging is a UK paper-based packaging company with four businesses across the UK. We are a highly acquisitive group with current revenues of 30M and ambitious growth targets. Dean Packaging & Smithpack make up the corrugated arm of the business.
We are seeking a highly capable Finance & Payroll Manager to oversee the financial management of the two corrugated businesses and take responsibility of the payroll function across the Grenadier Packaging group. This role is central to ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting & compliant payroll management. The successful candidate will provide financial insight to support decision-making whilst also taking ownership of the day-to-day payroll function.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Lead the finance function across both businesses, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
Prepare monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts.
Manage annual budgets and reforecasts, providing analysis and commentary on variances.
Oversee transactional finance (sales ledger, purchase ledger, credit control, bank reconciliations).
Monitor working capital and cash flow, providing recommendations for improvement.
Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, and other statutory obligations.
Liaise with auditors and manage the year-end accounts and audit process
Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
Payroll Management:
Take full responsibility for the payroll function across all Grenadier Packaging businesses (weekly and monthly).
Ensure compliance with all payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pension regulations
Administer auto-enrolment, pensions, and employee benefits
Ensure accurate and timely submissions of PAYE, NIC, and pension contributions
Maintain accurate employee payroll records in line with GDPR
Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, resolving them efficiently.
Key Requirements:
Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA) with strong finance and payroll expertise. QBE or candidates in the final examination stages will also be considered.
Previous experience managing finance and payroll within an SME or multi-entity environment.
Hands-on approach with a willingness to dive into the details when necessary.
Excellent IT skills, particularly advanced Excel.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to balance strategic and hands-on responsibilities.
