Are you an experienced financial assessment professional looking for a rewarding role within the public sector? West Berkshire Council is seeking a motivated Financial Assessment & Charging Officer to join our Adult Social Care Service for a fixed term to provide maternity cover.

As a Financial Assessment & Charging Officer you will play a vital role in ensuring a consistent and fair approach when completing financial assessments, to promote affordable, sustainable support for individuals who require Adult Social care service. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality financial assessment services within a supportive and collaborative working environment.

A secondment may be considered subject to approval.

The Role



As a Financial Assessment & Charging Officer, you will be responsible for:

Explaining the Council's Charging for Adult Social Care Policy and undertaking financial assessments for individuals receiving adult social care services, ensuring accurate determination of charges and contributions. Processing financial information and maintaining accurate, comprehensive records. Providing welfare benefit advice and helping with benefit claims Collaborating with other teams and stakeholders to ensure effective information sharing and resolution of queries. Supporting the Financial Assessment & Charging Team in the delivery of the financial assessment and charging service.


The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

Experience in financial assessment and charging within a social care environment. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines. Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial information. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide advice and support to service users. Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively, while also contributing to team objectives. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data processing.

Please note this role is fixed term until 30/09/2025 - Maternity cover
