JSM is a high-growth, private equity-backed utilities service provider, delivering integrated power and communications infrastructure across the UK. As part of our growth journey, we're expanding our finance team and seeking a commercially minded Finance Business Partner to bring insights, rigour, and process improvements to project and operational reporting.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will support both operational and strategic financial planning, with a strong emphasis on commercial accounting, project forecasting, and business process optimisation.
SCOPE OF ROLE
As Finance Business Partner, you'll work cross-functionally with Commercial, Operations, and wider Finance teams to provide real-time financial analysis, manage project performance, support cashflow optimisation, and oversee accurate month-end reporting. You'll also take the lead on business improvement initiatives and assist with any M&A activity.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED
Project & Commercial Accounting
Attend monthly project review meetings to report on positions, risks, and opportunities
Interrogate project trading positions using end-of-life value and cost forecasting
Partner with the Commercial Director to review the pipeline and order book rollout
Analyse variances between the business plan and actuals; highlight key movements
Support cash collection: ensure invoices are issued, cash forecasts updated, overdue debts chased
Track high-value materials (HVM) cash in/out flows and client payments
Implement client/supplier credit checks and risk mitigation procedures
Reconcile Contract WIP, overmeasures, and accruals with minimal aged items
Financial Reporting & Controls
Produce monthly management accounts and board packs
Generate weekly and long-term cashflow forecasts; track actual vs forecast
Ensure job ledger and CVR reconcile with the general ledger
Maintain accurate, reconcilable balance sheets without manual adjustments
Monitor stock movement and reporting
Oversee payroll, subcontractor payments, and timesheet integration
Own monthly balance sheet reconciliations and action closure
Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
WHAT IT TAKES
ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
Experience in construction, utilities or a similar project-based industry
Strong commercial acumen and understanding of CVRs, order books, and project forecasting
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data reconciliation)
High attention to detail and ability to simplify financial reporting for stakeholders
Excellent communication and influencing skills
Proactive mindset - able to identify improvements, drive change, and bring people on the journey
