You'll be joining the Route Services finance team, which is part of the corporate structure known as Finance and Business Support. Your role involves supporting the Route Services function to deliver services that are vital to the running of the railway, deliver the provision of services agreed by the routes to allow them to benefit from economies of scale and the optimisation of our critical resources.


Your role will provide Inventory support to the Route Services directorate including Supply Chain Operations (SCO), Digital, Data and Technology (Ddat) and Engineering Services (ES) teams.

About the role (External)



Key Responsibilities



Prepare quarterly reporting on Non-SCO stock inventory, highlighting improvements, gaps, and risks. Develop summary sheets for each Non-SCO stock type, covering balances, audit status, policies, and obsolescence risks. Produce one-page overviews for stock categories explaining management approach, contracts, and risk profile. Support development and documentation of accounting processes, policies, and improvement plans for stock management. Monitor SCO stock obsolescence, contributing to analysis and reporting requirements. Assist in aligning FAMS and Oracle systems, including:
+ Identifying and implementing improvement actions ahead of the Maximo/FAMS project. + Reviewing and resolving 0 value stock issues.
+ Clearing legacy stock discrepancies.
+ Producing regular updates and representing Finance in project discussions.
Support the design and business change aspects of the FAMS-Oracle (Maximo) project, raising concerns and reporting progress. Provide high-level financial analysis on stock balances and system alignment. Review and challenge stock levels across SCO and Non-SCO categories to ensure optimal use of working capital. Contribute to forecasting and planning of future stock requirements. Engage with stakeholders on inventory improvement plans, assessing their benefits, risks, and alignment with wider business priorities.

Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area (ie Financial, Analysis or Mathematical) and / or an accredited professional qualification (ie ACCA / CIMA / ICAEW or equivalent) High level of understanding of financial and / or commercial systems and policies Strong leadership ability with experience in balancing stakeholder expectations Able to effectively communicate at all levels inside and outside of the business Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative Can demonstrate innovative thinking in taking actions to improve performance and problem solving Experience within at least 2 different finance disciplines within Network Rail and/or external organisations (ie Opex, Capex, Analysis etc) Experience of stock accounting

Experience of working in a matrix management organisation Post qualification experience and / or other relevant professional or academic qualifications
