Job Description

About LeisureLabs

The LeisureLabs Group is the trusted technology partner for the world's leading fitness and wellness brands. The Group comprises two complementary businesses:

LeisureLabs

: a digital transformation and software development agency offering digital strategy consulting, software design and development, and technology implementation for enterprise clients.

Connect by LeisureLabs

: a Software-as-a-Service platform providing a library of pre-built digital products that integrate seamlessly into the existing ecosystems of fitness and wellness operators.

Together, the Group delivers innovative, scalable, and data-driven solutions that help fitness brands modernise their digital experiences, improve customer engagement, and grow their businesses.

Role Overview

The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in leading the financial management and planning activities across both LeisureLabs and Connect by LeisureLabs. Reporting directly to the founders, this is a hands-on position that combines day-to-day financial control with forward-looking commercial insight.

You will oversee all aspects of financial operations -- from management accounts, AP/AR, payroll, and VAT to budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling -- ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial stewardship as the Group continues its rapid growth.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced finance professional who enjoys both operational delivery and strategic input, and who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment. A bookkeeper will report directly to this role, and you will work closely with external accountants in areas such as specialist tax planning and year-end accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

Own the preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis) for both Group entities. Deliver insightful commentary and recommendations to the founders and senior team. Ensure robust reconciliations, accounting schedules, and month-end processes that maintain data integrity and compliance. Oversee intercompany accounting, revenue recognition, and project-based profitability analysis.

Budgeting, Forecasting and FP&A

Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles across both businesses. Develop and maintain dynamic financial models to support strategic planning and scenario analysis. Provide variance analysis and cost-control reporting, identifying risks and opportunities to improve profitability and cash efficiency. Support pricing reviews, business cases, and investment decisions with accurate financial insight.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

Produce rolling cash flow forecasts and ensure adequate liquidity to support operational and growth requirements. Oversee bank reconciliations, supplier payments, and debtor management, maintaining visibility of all cash movements. Advise on working capital optimisation, including payment terms, credit control, foreign exchange management and supplier management.

Payroll, VAT & Compliance

Oversee monthly payroll for UK employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with PAYE, pensions, and auto-enrolment. Prepare or review quarterly VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements. Maintain appropriate records, policies, and internal controls to meet statutory obligations.

Team Leadership & External Partnerships

Supervise the bookkeeper, reviewing their work and ensuring effective day-to-day financial operations. Act as the main liaison with external accountants for year-end reporting, tax planning, and audit support. Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and controls, including Xero optimisation.

Strategic & Project Support

Provide financial input into strategic projects, including SaaS pricing models, new business initiatives, and partnership agreements. Support the founders with investment planning, funding analysis, and board-level reporting. Play a key role in building scalable finance processes as the Group grows internationally.

Skills & Experience

Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent). Proven experience in a Financial Controller or Senior Management Accounting role, ideally within a fast-growth SME or digital/tech environment. Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, and payroll legislation. Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Xero (experience with group consolidations desirable). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Comfortable operating at both strategic and transactional levels. Ability to manage competing priorities in a part-time, flexible role while maintaining high standards of accuracy and delivery.

Working Pattern

Part-Time: 20-25 hours per week (flexible on scheduling). Hybrid or remote working arrangements available, depending on business needs.
