Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling

Operate forklift trucks (counterbalance) to move and pack steel products safely and efficiently. Transport materials between production, storage, and despatch areas.

Packing & Preparation

Pack steel coils, according to customer requirements and internal specifications. Apply protective materials (straps, bags). Check product dimensions, quality, weight and labelling before packing. Follow packing schedules and meet daily output targets.

Quality & Safety

Inspect materials for defects or incorrect specifications, reporting issues immediately. Ensure all loads comply with safety standards and quality procedures. Maintain a clean and organised work area. Adhere to site safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

Documentation

Complete packing records and stock movement logs. Use computer systems. Communicate effectively.

Skills & Experience Required

Valid Forklift Truck licence (counterbalance). Experience in a heavy industrial or steel manufacturing environment (preferred). Ability to read and follow technical instructions or packing specifications. Good awareness of health & safety and manual handling practices. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment. Strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to lift materials and work on your feet for extended periods. Comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment with noise, heat, and large machinery. Willingness to work shifts (12 hour shifts) , including potential overtime.

Marcegaglia Stainless Sheffield has three sites across Sheffield, and they include our own Melting Shop called SMACC (Stainless Melting and Continuous Casting), that produces semi-finished products such as slabs, billets, blooms and ingots; ASR (Alloy Steel Rods), our rolling mill that produces wire rod, bar and rebar and SSB (Sheffield Stainless Bar), our bar finishing unit.
