About Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control (SWMFC)

As one of the UK's leading fire control rooms, our core mission is to provide vital emergency response services to our community and beyond. We are responsible for the safety of 3.8 million residents across Staffordshire and the West Midlands - an area spanning 3,615 square kilometres.

While our operating model aligns with the practices of fire and rescue services across the UK, we pride ourselves on being progressive and innovative. We continuously adapt to emerging risks and evolving demands, ensuring we remain at the forefront of service delivery. As a result, the role of fire control is rapidly expanding, offering new opportunities and challenges as we shape the future of emergency response.

National Operational Guidance (NOG)

National Operational Guidance (NOG) is a framework developed by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) to provide consistent, evidence-based guidance for all UK fire and rescue services. It defines the principles and practices that support effective decision-making, risk management, and operational performance at every level - from incident commanders to fire control personnel.

Implementing NOG in fire control is essential to delivering safe, informed, and efficient responses to incidents. It helps ensure consistency across services, enhances interoperability during multi-agency responses, and strengthens the ability of fire control teams to provide accurate risk-critical information under pressure.

By embedding NOG into our control room procedures, we not only align with national best practices but also raise the standard of service we provide to our communities.
