The main purpose of a Fire Damper Remedial Engineer is to ensure that Fire Dampers (and associated hardware) are compliant with the regulations set down in DW145 & DW144. In doing so you will ensure that the fire damper is fit to prevent the spread of fire through the openings created by the HVAC system within the buildings. This ensures property and life safety.
Responsibilities
Full time, onsite role. National Travel required.
Accurately complete service records, engineers' sheets and reporting data.
Responsible for testing, inspection and maintenance of dampers.
Complete Fire Damper remedials - replacing fusible links, fitting access hatches, replacing springs and replacing/installing complete dampers.
Provide remedial recommendations to help compliance and fire safety at the site.
Use hand tools and power tools effectively to complete fire damper tasks.
Ensure all work is neat and tidy and done in a professional manner and to the highest quality.
Maintain a clean and organised work environment, ensuring tools are stored correctly after use.
Learn safe working site practices and develop a safety-first attitude
Learn the safe installation and use of access equipment
Make sure the building follows fire safety laws and regulations.
Identify areas where fire could spread and develop strategies to control it.
Allocate tasks to engineers, technicians, and other team members. Track progress and ensure the team meets deadlines and quality standard.
Experience
Good communicator with verbal and IT skills.
Previous experience working as a Fire Damper Remedial Engineer - this role will require the complete replacement and installation of Fire Dampers, not just links and doors.
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Heating and Ventilating Ductwork Installation, or equivalent level of competence obtained from on-the-job experience. A desire to work towards NVQ Level 2 or 3 if not currently qualified.
CSCS Card (Desirable)
Detail-oriented with a focus on high-quality, compliant work.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under minimal supervision
A good awareness and understanding of Health & Safety on site
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Frequent travel to client sites is required as well as evening work to suit customers' requirements.
Have a strong background in Fire Damper Remedials with at least 3 years' experience
Experience with using CDM software - SimPro
Documentation
DBS certification (essential and will be undertaken as part of the vetting process).
BS7858 vetting to be started.
Beneficial certifications: PASMA, IPAF.
SMSTS is desirable, however a willingness to work towards this is also acceptable.
Fire damper training within the last 2 years
Any other industry-based system and equipment training beneficial
Full UK driving licence
