Job Summary
Purpose of the job
To assist in the safety of the Aerodrome Operation at IWM Duxford.

In addition, your duties will include:
As a qualified CAA Aerodrome Fire Fighter you shall meet the requirements of the CAA CAP 699 Training manual in relation to all the duties of a Fire Fighter at a licenced Aerodrome.
These include:
Responding to emergency calls, requests for assistance and first aid incidents inclusive of both Airfield and Domestic site.
Regular fire ground drills and simulation exercises.
Ladder Work, firefighting requires the ability to work at height.
Operation / use of Fire Appliance Pumps and portable variants.
Manual Handling, both as an individual and a team based approach.
Driving both on site and off site, all Fire Fighters shall hold the relevant licence.
First Aid and Trauma care including the use of Medical Gas and De-Fib.
Use of rescue cutting / equipment.
Able to use Breathing Apparatus, Fire Fighters should be able to wear Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus.
Promoting fire safety standards to IWM colleagues.
Aircraft
Fire team personnel shall have full understanding of the relevant hazards and associated risks at an aircraft accident. A regular structured training program supports this requirement.
Topography
A full knowledge of both the Airfield, the surrounding response area and associated risks is vital to aviation safety at Duxford.
Test and Inspections
Fire team personnel shall carry out tests and inspections of all fire service equipment as laid down by the Duxford Fire Service Orders. Correct recording in relation to a CAA Audit is paramount, both electronic and written.
Monthly testing of equipment and procedures in order to maintain an efficient / functional service.
Duxford Airfield has over 100 buildings of which many are covered by an Automatic Fire Alarm System. Fire Service personnel are required to test these systems on a regular basis and liaise with the FM Dept / Control Room to ensure faults are reported and recorded / actioned correctly.
Fitness Requirements
This is a physical role for which you will need to have and maintain a good level of fitness and health. Gym facilities are provided, and time set aside to assist with this.
Medical Requirements
Pass medical, fitness assessments as required.
Qualify and serve as a First Aider / IEC Trauma Qualified Fire fighter.
Fire team personnel provide First Aid / Trauma care to the staff and visitors to IWM, you will be trained to assist with this role.
Aircraft Marshaller
Fire team personnel shall be able to marshal aircraft to parking. The team also assist with the towing and movement of aircraft. This can be manual or vehicular depending on the aircraft.
Wildlife Management
Fire team personnel shall take part in regular wildlife patrols of the Airfield in line with flight safety requirements.
Additional Skills
All Fire Service personnel will be expected to add additional skills to their job role as part of their personal development.
Due to the nature of the aerodrome opening times and on special events you will work a variable shift pattern of 5 days on 5 days off.
You are also required and contracted to work up to an additional 255 hours per annum. These hours will be allocated with as much notice as possible. They will be used to work: air shows, special events, covering out of hours flying, internal and external training, covering annual leave, sick leave and leap year days.
Fire Service Staff should be flexible in their duties so as to provide cover for the early/late flying during the year. There are no overtime payments for additional hours.
