Job Description


As the Fire Safety Assurance Officer, you will act as the fire safety expert and subject matter expert to delivery fire safety assurance, fire safety advice, fire guidance and support to ensure duty holder compliance with standards.

The key responsibilities as the Fire Safety Assurance Officer are as follows:

  • Ensure through technical expertise and experience the integrity and performance of safety and fulfilment of duty of principal risk/stakeholders
  • Deliver advice and guidance to ensure that the organisation meets its legal, moral and financial duties to both employees and Residents in terms of Fire Safety matters and fire risk reduction
  • Responsible for the ensuring the measuring and evaluation of adherence by duty holders to the Fire Safety Framework Components and organisation compliance and developing actions for duty holders
  • Building relationships and communication channels to effectively ensure "Duty Holder / Accountable Person" prescribed in law maintain compliance against all statutory requirements to protect the organisation and its residents
  • Liaison with Enforcers to deliver the best outcomes for the organisation in potential enforcement actions post inspection, fire investigation or audit
  • Acting as Witness and provide evidence as required to verify or justify the organisation\'s actions in Crown, Magistrates or Coroners Court in relation to actions or mitigation
  • Responsible for programmes of inspection delivery and undertaking routine monitoring and review of existing systems for Fire Safety of Residents and all other Relevant Persons
  • Undertaking Qualitative and Quantitative Audits and evaluations of Fire Risk in Property, Housing and Business areas to ensure conformance and compliance and standards of performance
  • Develop and liaise with Senior Duty Holders proportionate consistent fire risk reduction strategies. (Head of Building Safety, Fire Programme Managers etc) to ensure fulfilment of first line duty holders and implementation of appropriate actions to mitigate fire risk in properties
  • Delivery of support and advice in safe occupation and management of complex fire management by design or construction buildings or complex occupation and management arrangements or situations requiring additional knowledge, experience and skills to assure and verify practices
  • Through tours, inspections, working group attendance independently challenge unsuitable or unsafe systems identified. Liaise directly with duty holders ensuring appropriate resolution or escalation to the Head of Fire Safety if the risks are to wider business or reputation
  • Act as an expert and support to Building Safety and Fire Risk Teams with advice, guidance to enable them to achieve satisfactory resolutions to building fire issues
  • Deliver the physical audits and proactive monitoring of Fire Safety in Asset, Repairs, Housing and Operational teams
  • Supporting the Fire Safety team in delivery of Fire Strategy and practices
  • Assurance, Quality of FRA for \'in scope\' buildings including HRB\'s
  • Quality Assurance of works completed for Fire Standards and suitability
  • Assurance of appropriate Resident Liaison carried out under the Building Safety Managers
You will act as the Fire Safety expert and SME for fire safety assurance|Providing fire safety advice, guidance and supporting the duty holder standards

The successful Fire Safety Assurance Officer will need the following:
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent qualification minimum
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of legislation surrounding Fire and Safety in Specialised Housing and Social Housing Environment including HRRBs
  • Working towards/Willing to do European Diploma in Fire Safety or equivalent qualification or commensurate experience
  • IFE Membership working towards Graduate Level
  • Solid understanding of Fire Safety and application in social housing, building construction and/or repairs and maintenance environments
  • Sound understanding of housing construction, building pathology and how fire systems work in assets
  • Strong working understanding of Fire Safety Risk Management Frameworks and application in a large organisation
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Fire Risk Assessment Methodology and Practice
  • Proven ability to undertake complex organisational assurance audits and provide quality information and guidance of practices for assurance
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of providing Quality Assurance Reports on Third Party Assessments
  • Strong knowledge on regulatory enforcement and experience of liaison and communication with officers
  • Excellent communication skills; being able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation using different types of media and strategies
  • Ability to communicate clearly with good interpersonal skills including influencing
  • Ability to undertake nationwide travel and have a full UK driving License and be in London especially on a regular basis
