We are seeking an experienced and autonomous First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) to join our dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team in a busy GP practice. The FCP will work at the top of their scope to assess, diagnose, manage, and discharge patients with a range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions - reducing the need for GP consultations and streamlining MSK care.
As part of an integrated team including GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurses, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, HCAs, and Mental Health Practitioners, the FCP will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
2. Key Duties & Responsibilities
Clincial Duties :
To work as an autonomous specialist MSK practitioner in providing and delivering musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessments and treatment plans.
Act as the first point of contact for patients with MSK issues, without the need for GP referral.
To act independently to assess, analyse and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual patients, including those presenting with complex conditions, to determine their need for further MSK or non-MSK intervention. This should involve an understanding of when to refer to other services such as diagnostics, pathology, T&O, medication reviews, pain management, rheumatology, community physiotherapy and injection therapy.
Write contemporaneous clinical notes using SystmOne, Arden's Templates and provide advice and support with additional electronic software (e.g. PhysioTec, AccuRx etc) in line with professional standards.
Fulfil mandatory training and those additional training requirements as demanded for the role.
To understand each patients' needs and expectations, and irrespective of their backgrounds and/or beliefs, to provide them with the quality of service to the standards the company expects
To demonstrate excellence in report writing, and evidence an ability to complete reports autonomously without the need for further support.
To attend regular relevant courses both internally and externally, as well as keeping an up-to-date file of your CPD achievements, in line with CSP and HCPC guidelines. This is to be presented annually as part of the appraisal process.
To identify and manage any risks to quality, such as workload, communication, and team working, with the support of your line manager and clinical mentor, and to advise on any issues regarding service delivery.
To work as part of a team and liaise with other physiotherapists internally to ensure delivery of clinically effective care.
To communicate effectively with all stakeholders (including patients, clinical colleagues, administrative colleagues, receptionists, and external healthcare professionals etc) on challenging matters and in challenging situations in line with PICS Ltd & PCN procedures. Ensuring effective patient management, and working in collaboration with and/or referring to NHS colleagues in hospital and community settings.
To fully understand the wider MSK service and local MSK pathways: across primary care, secondary care, and the voluntary sector, including in depth knowledge of referral criteria and scope of services.
To take an active role in engaging with external fellow physiotherapy professionals, working to promote PICS Ltd as a leading healthcare organisation, being aware of the referral pathways and actively suggesting and engaging with initiatives to help the business improve patient care.
Multidisciplinary Working:
Collaborate closely with GPs, ACPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Mental Health Practitioners, and others to ensure joined-up patient care.
Contribute to team meetings and case discussions.
Support upskilling of the wider team in MSK knowledge and self-management strategies.
Service Development:
Contribute to service planning, audit, and quality improvement projects.
Support the practice in optimising MSK care pathways and reducing unnecessary referrals to secondary care.
Participate in the evaluation and reporting of FCP service outcomes.
Professional Development :
Maintain HCPC registration and evidence of ongoing CPD in line with FCP and MSK frameworks.

Essential:
HCPC-registered Physiotherapist
BSc or equivalent in Physiotherapy
Evidence of post graduate qualification or evidence of working at an equivalent level in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
Extensive musculoskeletal experience
Sound evidence of CPD and reflective practice
Advanced MSK physiotherapy skills
Confidence and ability to accurately assess and manage complex patient presentations autonomously and to a high professional standard
Understanding of Information Governance, Data Protection, HCPC /CSP standards and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults/Children
Experience of working at a specialist level with a purely MSK caseload
Experience of service development
The ability to communicate complex/contentious information in a clear and logical manner to a range of audiences
Knowledge of the radiology guidelines applied to MSK conditions
Knowledge of pathology and blood tests used in MSK diagnosis
The ability to discuss patient management with GPs, consultants, and wider teams
Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills
Ability to work across multiple sites and caseloads independently and effectively
Strong IT skills including clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne) and reporting tools
Desirable:
Injection Therapy Qualification
Current IRMER training and competency for requesting X-ray investigations
