Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Fishmonger to work on our busy retail counter in the picturesque setting of Southwold Harbour.
As a Fishmonger, you will be responsible for providing high-quality fish and seafood products to our customers while ensuring adherence to food safety standards.
The ideal candidate will be confident and hands-on with a mature, professional approach and hold previous culinary experience.
Your duties as Fishmongers will include but will not be limited to the following:
Prepare and display a variety of fish and seafood products for sale, ensuring freshness and quality
Prepare fish to a high standard, including; cleaning, gutting, filleting, pin boning and descaling as well as portioning according to customer specifications
Maintain an organised and hygienic work environment in compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
Provide knowledgeable advice to customers regarding different types of fish, cooking methods, and recipes
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely supply of seafood for restaurant operations
Monitor inventory levels and assist with stock management to minimise waste
Monitor the quality and freshness of produce from suppliers, addressing and escalating issues promptly
Ensure that all aspects of the purchasing, storing and serving of produce through the fishmongers meets agreed health and safety requirements
Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on best practices in food preparation and safety
Ensure the fish counter is sufficiently staffed at all times
Complete all required paperwork in a timely fashion
Responsible for cash, stock, equipment and business security
Resolve or report maintenance issues, escalating to senior team when appropriate
Adhere strictly to the Company's policies and procedures at all times
Manual Handling
Till work and using the company's payment systems
Use of kitchen tools and appliances
Training and support will be provided along with additional online training to help you to be the best you can be.
Requirements:
Strong background in food preparation, culinary techniques, or food production is beneficial
Knowledge of food safety standards and practices is essential
Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach
A passion for seafood and culinary arts will enhance your success in this role
A good knowledge of fresh fish and shellfish is essential
Experience within a kitchen environment
Knowledge of online ordering systems desirable but not essential
A kind and professional manner towards staff and customers, providing a friendly and memorable service

The ability to work at pace and prioritise tasks
High standards of cleanliness and ability to adhere to strict Health & Safety requirements

Able to get to and from Southwold Harbour reliably, including outside of bus hours
