The Role
Based at Pinxton, you will be responsible for all aspects of fleet and workshop management, including:
Planned and preventative maintenance
Breakdowns and compliance in line with the operator's licence
Health & Safety leadership across all workshop operations
Managing the on-site VMU (Vehicle Maintenance Unit) - either in-house or outsourced
Reviewing fleet maintenance models to determine the most efficient and cost-effective approach
Managing sub-contracted services and negotiating competitive rates
Ensuring equipment availability and safety
Liaising with Operations to remove and repair defective equipment
Overseeing calibration and maintenance records
Maintaining the KB brand image through fleet presentation
Purchasing and procurement of maintenance products and services
Risk assessments and compliance documentation
Providing technical advice and insurance cost proposals
Leading and developing a small team of HGV Technicians
Occasional hands-on maintenance support
You'll also manage external MOT and maintenance providers, ensuring fleet readiness while minimising costs and downtime.
Please note:
The fleet consists of both UK and Irish trucks, requiring a strong understanding of cross-border compliance and maintenance standards.
The Ideal Candidate
You'll bring:
Proven experience supervising or managing within an HGV workshop
Strong mechanical engineering background
Excellent knowledge of vehicle and fleet compliance
Understanding of European drivers' hours and geography
International CPC - essential
Engineering / Mechanical qualifications - essential
HGV licence - desirable
Person Specification
Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., IRTE, SOE)
Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent)
Experience in haulage fleet management or workshop leadership
Strong leadership and team motivation skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Proficiency in MS Office applications
Proven history of system implementation and continuous improvement
Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Kaizen, Six Sigma - desirable
