Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, organised, and commercially aware

Fleet & Compliance Manager

to take full ownership of our HGV fleet performance, compliance, and availability.

This is a hands-on operational role with real accountability. You will ensure our vehicles are safe, legal, well-maintained, and cost-effective--supporting daily transport operations while protecting our Operator Licence and reputation.

You will work closely with transport, drivers, workshops, and senior management to maximise fleet uptime, reduce cost, and maintain a strong compliance culture.

Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Operations & Compliance



Own day-to-day fleet availability, ensuring vehicles are planned, prepared, and fit for purpose Oversee all servicing, inspections, MOTs, PMIs, defects, and repairs Ensure full compliance with DVSA, O-Licence undertakings, tachograph and WTD requirements Maintain accurate and audit-ready fleet records (maintenance, inspections, licensing, insurance) Act as a key point of contact for DVSA visits, audits, and compliance reviews

Cost Control & Performance



Monitor and control fleet costs including maintenance, tyres, fuel, and downtime Analyse fleet data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities Work with suppliers, workshops, and brokers to secure value-for-money services Support vehicle replacement, procurement, and disposal planning

Driver & Safety Oversight



Work alongside transport and ops teams to support driver compliance and safe vehicle use Promote a strong safety and defect-reporting culture across the fleet Support driver inductions, vehicle familiarisation, and performance standards

Continuous Improvement



Improve fleet utilisation, uptime, and reliability Develop and maintain clear fleet policies and procedures Introduce smarter systems, reporting, or processes where they add value

What We're Looking For



Essential



Proven experience in fleet management within haulage or commercial transport Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and DVSA expectations Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities Confident communicator with drivers, suppliers, and regulators Comfortable using fleet, compliance, or transport management systems Proactive, detail-focused, and calm under pressure

Desirable



Experience in pallet network or multi-vehicle operations Transport Manager CPC (or strong working knowledge of TM responsibilities) Experience preparing for or managing DVSA audits
