Are you experienced at developing impactful exhibitions and excited by the opportunity to deliver a purposeful permanent exhibition at the heart of a new research centre and public venue, in Paddington, London?
The Fleming Initiative, a new partnership led by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, is looking for a creative Exhibition Content Developer with a strong track record in researching content, developing interpretation strategies and an appetite for involving local communities in exhibition development.
The Initiative aims to protect global populations from the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through an innovative approach combining research, behaviour change, public engagement and policy. At the heart of this vision is a purpose-built Fleming Centre London, due to open in 2028, where visitors can discover and contribute to the past, present and future of AMR research.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
You will research and delivercontent for a permanent public offer of object displays, art commissions, powerful personal stories, digital assets and interactives, worthy of the world's best museums, galleries and science centres, based at the St Mary's hospital campus, the location of Sir Alexander Fleming's discovery of penicillin, as well as the exhibition's associated digital presence. You will do so in a way that allows visitors to participate in engaged AMR research, creating a living lab as an extension of the Fleming Centre's research spaces.
You will:
Develop content and interpretive exhibition deliverables including content hierarchy, object list, learning outcomes, interpretation strategy and exhibition script
Actively involve local communities in shaping the exhibition content
Develop interactive exhibit briefs and monitor their delivery
Work closely with Fleming Initiative researchers and policy experts, identifying opportunities for the public to shape and contribute to upcoming research and policy ('people-powered research')
Play an active role in design development of the Fleming Centre exhibition, including exhibit prototyping
Champion and contribute to the delivery of the Fleming Initiative's wider Public Engagement & Involvement strategy
I Don't think the College website or jobs.ac.uk have the facility to do the thing with some of the words in bold! Format is fairly standard (and boring!)
What we are looking for
---------------------------
Substantial experience of content research and development for exhibitions, ideally including content on medical/ health themes
Adaptable communication skills with the ability to make complex ideas accessible through excellent written and spoken communications skills
Experience of developing interactive exhibits and digital content
The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment, able to prioritise and take responsibility for managing your own work
A track record of delivering exhibitions of quality and impact.
The right candidate will ideally have experience of working with scientific content, science researchers, healthcare professionals and patients. All applicants should be excited and motivated by the opportunity to work with patients and public on a major public health issue and recognise the importance of putting the public at the heart of action to address AMR.
