The business based in Malton, North Yorkshire are looking for a Food Hygiene Manager to lead and be an integral part of the site technical team.

Job Overview



The Food Hygiene Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring hygiene and sanitation protocols to ensure that food products meet the highest standards of safety and quality. This role is key to preventing contamination, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and safe environment across food production, handling, and storage areas.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week working Tuesday to Saturday. Shift patterns to be discussed at interview.

Key Responsibilities



1. Food Hygiene & Safety Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all food hygiene laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC, food safety regulations).

Develop, implement, and regularly update the company's food hygiene and sanitation programs, policies, and procedures.

Conduct regular audits and inspections of food production areas, kitchens, and storage facilities to identify potential hygiene risks.

Maintain all hygiene documentation, including inspection records, cleaning schedules, cleaning validation studies and incident reports, ensuring they are up to date and available for internal and external audits.

Risk Assessment & Control



Perform risk assessments to identify potential food safety hazards, ensuring all critical control points are monitored and controlled.

Implement corrective actions when hygiene issues are identified, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and food safety standards are restored quickly.

Investigate any incidents of food contamination or non-compliance, developing and implementing strategies to prevent recurrence.

Training & Development:



Train and educate staff on hygiene best practices, food safety protocols, CIC, chemical handling and the proper handling and storage of food.

Organise regular training sessions for all staff to ensure they are up-to-date with food hygiene standards and compliance requirements.

Mentor and support team members in developing a culture of hygiene excellence within the organisation.

Cleaning & Sanitation



Review and confirm the efficacy of cleaning protocols for all equipment and areas to ensure that they achieve the required level of hygiene.

Oversee all cleaning operations within food production, preparation, and storage areas, ensuring that cleaning staff are effectively managing hygiene tasks.

Establish cleaning schedules and ensure that all areas are cleaned and sanitised according to company protocols and legal requirements.

Manage the use and storage of cleaning chemicals, ensuring safe practices and compliance with health and safety regulations (COSHH).

Ensure all hygiene cleaning records are completed and reviewed on time, in line with cleaning schedules.

Health & Safety Coordination



Work closely with the Health and Safety team to ensure food hygiene procedures align with occupational health and safety regulations.

Ensure that all hygiene equipment, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitation tools, is maintained and in good working condition.

Assist in the preparation and coordination of food safety audits from regulatory authorities, clients, or certification bodies.

Continuous Improvement



Stay up to date with emerging food safety trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in food hygiene.

Continuously review and improve food hygiene processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and ensure ongoing compliance with industry standards.

Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute to quality and safety improvement initiatives.

Key Requirements:

Experience

o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a food hygiene or food safety management role, preferably within food manufacturing, catering, or hospitality industries.

o Demonstrated experience with HACCP implementation and management.

o Proven ability to manage and lead hygiene teams in a fast-paced food production environment.

Education & Certifications

o Preferred, Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.

o HACCP certification (Level 3 or higher).

o Food Safety certification (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, or equivalent).

o Certification in COSHH or chemical handling safety (preferred).

Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of food hygiene laws, regulations, and standards.

Excellent leadership and people management skills.

Attention to detail and a high level of organization.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to act quickly on hygiene-related issues.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with teams across departments.

Proficiency with hygiene monitoring systems and software (preferred).

Working Conditions

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as required by food production schedules.
