Morecambe Bay Chowder Co is a small, independent food business producing high-quality seafood chowder using local ingredients and traditional methods. We supply cafes and partners (including Booths) and also trade at markets and pop-ups.
We're a
family-run business
and care deeply about doing things properly -- food safety, consistency, and treating people with respect. This is not a big factory or a high-pressure service kitchen. It's calm, structured production work, with pride taken in the end product.
The role
We're looking for a
Food Production Assistant
to support our production and packing operation during a busy spring period.
This is a
hands-on, practical role
focused on food preparation, portioning, packing, cleaning, and keeping the operation running smoothly. You'll work closely with the owner in a small team, with clear routines and expectations.
The role is offered on a
fixed-term contract (February to end of May)
, with peak hours earlier in the contract and some reduction in hours likely toward the end.
Hours & working pattern
Monday to Thursday
Approx. 32 hours per week
Daytime shifts, with
some early starts (from around 7am)
depending on deliveries
Exact hours agreed in advance, with some flexibility, and kept consistent week to week where possible
What you'll be doing
Assisting with food preparation and batch cooking
Portioning, packing and labelling products accurately
Maintaining high food hygiene and cleanliness standards
Supporting deliveries and production flow
Cleaning down work areas and equipment properly
Following simple processes to ensure consistency and quality
Training will be provided --
reliability and care matter more than speed
.
This role is for you if you
Have experience in food prep, production or kitchens (commercial or similar)
Are organised, dependable and pay attention to detail
Value calm, structured work over fast-paced service environments
Are comfortable with a
fixed-term role reviewed in May
Take pride in doing things properly, even when no one is watching
This role is probably not for you if
You're looking for a long-term permanent management role
You prefer high-pressure service kitchens and late nights
You need guaranteed year-round hours with no seasonal variation
We're being upfront so expectations are clear on both sides.
