About Us



Imberhorne is a truly comprehensive school, providing an extensive academic curriculum from Years 7 to 13, alongside an enviable range of extra-curricular activities designed to appeal to the widest interests. Students in Years 7 to 9 are educated on the site of the former East Grinstead Grammar School on Windmill Lane, which provides a nurturing environment for their first three years with us. Years 10 and 11 and our large Sixth Form are based at our Imberhorne Lane site, which has all the specialist facilities and teaching spaces needed for the wide range of examination courses we offer. The majority of staff teach across both sites. We currently have 1630 students on roll, including 270 in our Sixth Form. We are keen for our students to develop into well-rounded young people, with the academic knowledge, character and interpersonal skills they need to take their place as active citizens in society. We value all learning and subjects, meaning our curriculum is extremely wide-ranging, designed to knowledge-rich and to inspire and motivate in equal measure. Food Technician



NJC Grade 4: Spine Point 5-6



15 hours per week, Term Time Only (38 weeks)



Pro-rata salary 8,465 - 8,599 per annum





Our Design and Technology department pride themselves on the high-quality curriculum that is provided for all students. We rely on the skills and knowledge of our Food Technicians to help us safely manage the environment and to provide support for the practical teaching elements.



The main purpose of the role is to:


Work with teachers as part of a professional team to support learning by providing technical assistance through the preparation of ingredients and materials, maintaining equipment and supplies, contributing to departmental activities and administrative tasks. Assist students in lessons to fully access the practical elements of the curriculum within this element of the D&T scheme of work.

Your key skills will include


The ability to work with a broad range of kitchen equipment, efficiently and safely source and prepare food for demonstrations and have good knowledge of cooking techniques. Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within a kitchen environment and an ability to apply these within a classroom context Good communication skills, with adults and young people Able to undertake a range of administrative tasks as required by the department



What You Need to Succeed



To be successful in this role you will need to:


Working experience of a broad range of kitchen equipment, food preparation and cooking techniques. Demonstrable skills required to source and prepare ingredients and equipment for demonstrations and practical lessons Effective interpersonal skills that can be adapted based on the audience, coupled with an ability to manage difficult conversations and potential conflict. Able to work autonomously, organising and prioritising work, even when under pressure, to meet deadlines and unplanned situations. Able to work flexibly and constructively a part of a team, contributing to maintaining a positive and enabling environment
