Downham Market and District Foodbank is looking for a compassionate, organised and proactive
Project Manager
to lead our foodbank centres. You will play a vital role in supporting people in crisis and helping tackle poverty in West Norfolk.
About the Role
As Foodbank Centre Project Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic and day-to-day operation of our foodbank centres. Working closely with the Trustees and volunteers, you will ensure our services are effective, compassionate, and sustainable - supporting clients with emergency food, signposting, and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the foodbank's long-term strategy in line with Trussell Trust guidance.
Manage the smooth running of foodbank centres, ensuring high-quality, safe and welcoming environments.
Support and coordinate volunteers, ensuring they are well-trained and equipped.
Build relationships with referral agencies, local charities, churches, and service providers.
Promote the foodbank's work publicly to help raise awareness and challenge poverty stigma.
Identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant applications.
Monitor stock levels and oversee foodbank operations in collaboration with warehouse staff.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Passionate about social justice and helping those in need.
Experienced in project or service management (voluntary or paid).
A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
Organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Comfortable working with volunteers, local authorities, and community partners.
Familiar with safeguarding, data protection and equality best practices.
Experience in the charity sector or with The Trussell Trust network is desirable but not essential.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience
?Proven experience in project management, including strategic planning and delivery.
?Experience of working with or managing volunteers.
?Experience in partnership working and stakeholder engagement.
?Experience of preparing funding applications and managing grants.
?Experience of managing safeguarding and data protection in a community setting.
Knowledge
?Understanding of poverty, social justice issues and the impact of food insecurity.
?Good knowledge of the voluntary/community sector and statutory services relevant to
foodbanks.
?Familiarity with The Trussell Trust model (or willingness to learn and comply).
?Knowledge of best practice in safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality in
service delivery.
Skills & Abilities
?Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal.
?Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple
tasks and deadlines.
?Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into practical action.
?Competence in using IT systems, including Microsoft Office and cloud-based data
systems.
?Ability to work independently, use initiative and make informed decisions.
?Ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including people in
crisis, volunteers, funders, and statutory agencies.
