Hazelwood House is looking to recruit a forensic social worker to join the team. This is a full time 37.5 hours role.
Priory Hospital Hazelwood House, in Heath, Derbyshire, is a low secure unit for 12 males with mental health needs. We also support those who have a learning disability, complex care needs and/or are on the autism spectrum. This hospital provides WAIS and ADOS assessments for patients who may be waiting for an NHS diagnosis.
What you'll be doing
You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. As forensic social worker, you will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.To contribute to the provision of multi-disciplinary pre-admission assessments of patients referred to Hazelwood House, with the key responsibility for obtaining and verifying information regarding a patient's family, victim issues and any other third party information
To identify and contribute to the assessment and management of risk, whilst balancing the need for public protection
To research, by obtaining and analysing previous reports, conducting collateral interviews with the patient, family members, victims and community professional
To compile statutory reports and other associated documentation under current legislation and present these at ward rounds, care treatment review meetings, care program approach meetings, mental health review tribunals, and hospital managers' hearings, as the detaining authority, offering verbal evidence in support of their contents

What you'll bring to the role

The role requires at least 1-2 years of experience within a forensic, criminal justice, or mental health setting, where the individual has developed strong skills in assessing and managing individuals with mental health or forensic backgrounds. The role frequently involves handling highly complex, sensitive, or potentially volatile situations while maintaining the confidence of patients, carers, and families. Exceptional interpersonal skills are also essential for success in this position.
