Job Title: Formulation Scientist
At FA Bio, we are pioneering the development of sustainable agricultural solutions through the discovery and application of fungal-based biologicals that support soil regeneration and crop health. As a Formulation Specialist, you will play a key role in translating microbial innovation into real-world, field-ready products. You will develop novel formulations for fungal-based biostimulants and biocontrol agents, ensuring efficacy, viability, stability, and ease of application. Working at the interface of R&D and production, you will collaborate closely with the fermentation team and contribute to cross-functional development pipelines, from early-stage testing to product scale-up and deployment.

This is an on-site role.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Design, test, and optimise formulations for fungal biological products (e.g., granules, powders, seed coatings, suspension concentrates).
Support the fermentation team when needed.
Plan and execute stability and viability tests of the microbial formulation.
Maintain accurate datasets.
Responsible for experimental design for the development of different formulations.
Develop Minimal Viable Formulations (MVFs) and assist with scale-up planning.
Collaborate and communicate with external CROs/CMOs for outsourced formulation trials, testing, or production processes.
Ensure product formulations meet safety, quality, and performance standards.
Responsible for risk assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to formulation development.
Engage in cross-departmental communication (e.g., with Regulatory, Trials, and Product Development teams).
Stay current on advances in formulation technologies and materials for biological agriculture.
Provide training and support to team members, ensuring adherence to protocols and best practices.
Foster a collaborative, innovative, and transparent work environment.
Experience Required
Essential
MSc or PhD in engineering, bioengineering, formulation science, biotechnology, or a related discipline.
At least 4 years of proven experience in formulation development, preferably involving microbial or biological products.
Familiarity with stability testing, microbial viability assessments, and general lab practices
Understanding of biological production processes, especially related to fungi or spore-forming microbes
Desirable
Knowledge of specialised techniques (e.g., fluid bed drying, seed coating).
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or similar databases for sample tracking and workflow management is beneficial.
Exposure to GLP/GMP environments or regulatory documentation for biological products.
Skills
