Founding Engineer (ai/ml)

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

You'll be one of the first people helping us build Clove from the ground up. Your work will directly shape how our customers interact with their advisors and manage their wealth for the first time in a human, guided, mobile-first way.

What you'll do:

Design and build lightweight, embedded AI tooling to enhance Clove's advisor and internal experiences.. Own the development of systems for transcription, summarisation, and LLM-assisted content generation. Work closely with our advisors to integrate AI features into workflows -- think: call summaries, auto-drafted recommendations, Q&A assistants. Evaluate and fine-tune LLMs, build prompt pipelines, and manage third-party API integration (OpenAI, Claude, etc). Prototype internal tools for operations and compliance powered by AI (e.g. email triage, KYC summarisation, flags). Build the underlying infrastructure to serve these tools reliably, with strong observability and fallback paths.

What we're looking for:

5+ years experience in ML/AI engineering, with at least 2 years in productionising models or LLM-based systems. Strong practical experience working withLLMs, embeddings, prompt design, vector stores, and output handling. Experience integrating AI features into user-facing product workflows, ideally in productivity tooling or internal apps. You enjoy working closely with product and design to test, integrate, and refine AI-based experiences. You're outcome-oriented and practical -- you know where to apply models vs heuristics, and how to ship fast. Bonus: familiarity with LangChain, Pinecone/Weaviate, Whisper, OpenAI, Claude, HuggingFace, etc.

Why join now:

Be the first AI engineer building core capabilities that supercharge financial advisors and internal ops. Shape how AI is applied to real human workflows -- not as a chatbot, but as an intelligent assistant. Join a small, high-trust founding team where your work ships fast and directly impacts customer outcomes.

What we offer:

Competitive salary & meaningful equity -- real ownership in what we're building London HQ with flexible working -- we believe in time spent together, in person, but we also care about flexibility A-grade tools & setup -- top-tier hardware and your choice of software Autonomy and impact -- you'll own your work end-to-end and help shape our direction from the early days High-trust, high-performance culture -- small senior team, no micromanagement, fast feedback loops Mission with momentum -- we're closing the advice gap for a new generation, backed by proven founders and real market insight Regular offsites & in-person time -- we make space for connection and collaboration

Our hiring process isn't rigid, but our principles are clear:

We'll do what's needed to build mutual trust: you'll understand what we expect from you, and we'll understand what you expect from us. We'll aim for clarity of the role, though at this stage, some scope will evolve -- and that's part of the excitement. * Expect conversations with the founding team and potential collaborators. No hoops for the sake of it -- just real conversations, practical exercises if relevant, and space to ask questions.
