Compound is a modern pension platform designed to empower individuals to grow their retirement savings--and help employers and accountants turn pensions from a sunk cost into a valuable benefit. Backed by a strong founding team with deep expertise in finance, compliance, and product, we're now seeking an experienced
Fractional CTO
to act as a technical counterbalance and trusted advisor as we scale.
The Role
We're looking for a
no-nonsense, experienced Fractional CTO
to be our
technical right hand
--the person who keeps our tech on track and our developers accountable. We're not technical founders, and we need someone we trust to bridge the gap between us and our developers, making sure what's being built is robust, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
This is not a hands-on coding role, but a
strategic technical leadership role
, acting as the
interpreter, translator, and enforcer
between the business and the tech.
Responsibilities
Act as a check and balance
between the founding team and our developers.
Hold our developers accountable
--ask the tough questions, review plans, timelines, and implementations, and flag issues early.
Translate technical decisions into business implications
(and vice versa).
Help us
hire and vet future developers and technical partners
as we grow.
Provide
oversight and guidance
on architecture, dev processes, and infrastructure (but not day-to-day coding).
Ensure everything being built is
secure, scalable, and production-ready
.
Help us stop worrying about whether what's being built will actually work.
What We're Looking For
A seasoned technical leader with
prior CTO or senior engineering leadership experience
, ideally in
early-stage fintech
.
Strong experience
working with non-technical founders
--you know how to communicate clearly and cut through tech jargon.
Someone who's
comfortable being direct and decisive
, especially when things aren't up to scratch.
Experience in
compliance-heavy or regulated industries
(ideally pensions, investments, or similar).
Proven ability to
vet and manage third-party dev teams
, ensuring delivery and code quality.
Bonus: Experience with
pension tech, SIPP platforms
, or UK financial infrastructure.
What You Get
A meaningful part in building a fintech company from the ground up.
Flexible, remote working setup.
A collaborative team that values straight-talking and decisive action.
Equity and/or competitive fractional day rate depending on experience.
