About the Role

Performers College Essex is seeking a Ballet tutor to join us on a freelance basis on the BA Musical Theatre and Dance. This will initially be for maternity cover commencing the end of September 2025 - December 2025 however there may be the opportunity for regular teaching as well as covering teaching/deputising and guest lecturing on an ad hoc basis.

The University provides internal training and professional development for all lecturers, especially those new to teaching. If you have a graduate or postgraduate qualification then this will be advantageous, but this is not a prerequisite.

You will play a key role in supporting and developing students' technical and artistic skills in ballet whilst delivering high-quality education to our students.

What You'll Do:

• Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive classes in ballet.

• Provide scaffolded learning for students with mixed abilities and starting points.

• Provide hands-on specialist training to students.

• Assess and evaluate student work, providing constructive feedback.

• Stay updated with industry trends and integrate these into the curriculum.

• Mentor and support students, fostering their professional growth.

• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the class content.

What You'll Bring:

• A graduate or postgraduate qualification in dance or another performance related subject

• A graduate or postgraduate qualification in education is advantageous but not essential.

• Significant teaching experience (at the higher education level is preferred but not essential).

• Significant industry experience.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

• A flexible approach to work.

Contractual Hours:

Freelance, variable hours depending on subject area and student numbers.
