About the Role

Performers College Essex is seeking a Jazz Technique teacher, to join us on a freelance basis at our Essex Campus, with an opportunity for regular teaching starting the end of September 2025.

The University provides internal training and professional development for all lecturers, especially those new to teaching. If you have a graduate or postgraduate qualification then this will be advantageous, but this is not a prerequisite.

You will play a key role in supporting and developing students' foundational technical skills in jazz whilst delivering high-quality education to our students.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and deliver engaging and comprehensive classes in Foundations of Technical Jazz.
  • Provide scaffolded learning for students with mixed abilities and starting points.
  • Provide hands-on specialist training to students.
  • Assess and evaluate student work, providing constructive feedback.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and integrate these into the curriculum.
  • Mentor and support students, fostering their professional growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the class content.

What You'll Bring:

  • A graduate or postgraduate qualification in dance or another performance related subject
  • A graduate or postgraduate qualification in education is advantageous but not essential.
  • Significant teaching experience (at the higher education level is preferred but not essential).
  • Significant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Mattox and Meggido dance techniques is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
  • A flexible approach to work.

Contractual Hours:

Freelance, variable hours depending on subject area and student numbers.
