The Spotted Dog in Dunmow is a small, independent restaurant offering great service and freshly-made food. We are established, have a good base of clientele, and a strong team in place. But we are getting busier and need an additional lead to support us.
We are therefore looking for an experienced person to join our front of house team as a manager.
Throughout our current tenure of ownership, now 3 years, we have continued to make progressive steps in improving. Be this with service, drinks, food, ambience, cleanliness... we have gotten better and better. And aim to get even better. But we need further senior front of house support to achieve this.
The role is unique. In as much as we have an already established team. You will be joining, from the top, and supporting our Director of Service in driving, assuring, creating and delivering on an exceptional service. The role requires liaison with our Head Chef to ensure that back and front are aligned at all times.
As the restaurant is small - this role is hands on. It means that whilst there is management of staff, rotas, and all the very many daily things that require oversight, it will also require doing.

Duties
Oversee daily operations of the front of house, ensuring a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure.
Manage and supervise staff, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely food preparation and presentation, maintaining high culinary standards.
Implement and enforce food safety regulations and best practices in food production.
Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback with professionalism and efficiency.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the front of house area, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Assist in menu planning and development in collaboration with the culinary team.
Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, communication, and professional growth among staff members.
Requirements
Proven experience in a supervisory role within the hospitality or restaurant industry.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Familiarity with food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and culinary terminology.
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations is essential.
Previous experience in barista duties or hotel management is advantageous.
A background in food production or kitchen operations is highly desirable.
