Quality lies at the heart of HiDef\xe2\x80\x99s services and following a growth of business the company is looking to recruit a Full Stack Developer to join our busy Innovation team. This role is UK-based, HiDef operates offices in Cumbria and Edinburgh in addition to hybrid and home working options.
The role: For our digital aircraft-based survey programme, we use the high-resolution digital video system to carry out seabird and marine mammal surveys. Every single animal is saved into an existing data base with associated parameters. This database is the basis for further data processing. HiDef is searching for an experienced Full Stack Developer with a solid foundation in Computer Science or a related field. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Perl, Dancer, PostgreSQL, Docker, and have knowledge of at least one modern web technology. This role will focus on upgrading or potentially migrating our existing tech stack to more scalable and efficient solutions. Basic requirements for this work are an ability to work structured and independently, enjoy engaging in interdisciplinary exchange with biologists to merge the ideas. Duties:

• Develop and optimize applications using Perl and the Dancer framework.
• Manage and scale PostgreSQL databases.
• Utilize Docker and Docker Compose for containerization and deployment.
• Lead initiatives to upgrade or migrate our current tech stack to newer technologies.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Stay updated with new technologies and propose their adoption where beneficial.

The successful candidate will need:

• Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Solid experience in Perl, Dancer, PostgreSQL, and Docker.
• Knowledge of at least one modern web technology (e.g., Node.js, React, Angular, Vue.js, Ruby on Rails).
• Experience with system migrations and upgrading legacy systems.
• Understanding of network configurations and web server deployment.
• Proficiency in code versioning tools and automated testing platforms.
• Excellent problem-solving and team collaboration skills.

The following would also be desirable:

• Experience with automated web testing tools like Selenium.
• Knowledge in managing C extensions for PostgreSQL.
