Job Description

St Michael's Nursing Home in Worthing are looking to recruit an experienced full-time cook. Job role will include the following:

1. To implement and supervise all aspects of kitchen control e.g. menus, hygiene, health and safety, staff, cleaning, and waste control.

2. To identify and recruit kitchen assistant staff within the agreed guidelines.

3. To order catering consumables from currently nominated suppliers in line with company purchasing policy.

4. To have full understanding of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and to ensure that all staff adhere to HACCP. To ensure that all associated documentation is completed and signed by the appropriate members of staff.

5. To complete monthly kitchen audits and report findings to the home manager.

6. To prepare menus for the nursing home considering the content, balance, colour, and nutritional values in line with the agreed budget.

7. To consult with residents on a regular basis to ensure that their needs and choices are being met.

8. To prepare special diets for the residents as directed by the manager and nursing staff.

9. To implement and maintain an agreed cleaning schedule for the kitchen.

10. To cooperate with requests from the home manager and residents wherever possible.

11. To carry out staff supervision adhering to home policies.

12. To complete all staff personal development reviews.

13. To maintain agreed stock levels of food.

The position will require the successful candidate to be able to prepare meals for residents adhering to the IDDSI standards. Previous experience of working in the kitchen of a nursing home would be desirable, full training will be provided.

The ideal candidate will already hold a current Food Hygiene Certification. An enhanced DBS check is also required for this role.

The hours of work will cover five full days as the cook (7.15am - 3.15 pm) and additional hours as and when necessary to cover holidays.
