We are seeking to appoint a

full time Gardener

, who will report to the Grounds and Gardens Manager.

This is a 52 week role, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, 25 days annual leave, with a six months probationary period.

Extra hours, including weekends, may be worked by mutual agreement with the Facilities Manager. Weekend work is at an enhanced rate.

Duties and responsibilities:



Assist in all general day to day duties including: prepping/planting/pruning beds, shrubs & trees, lawn mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, leaf blowing and collection, soft landscaping, weed control and litter removal, helping to maintain the general cleanliness and tidiness of the school grounds; Safe use of horticultural tools/machinery, and their care, cleaning and storage after use; Assist with watering beds and pots; Assist with the design and planting of display areas; Spreading of grit salt during periods of ice and manual snow clearance from footpaths; Work in all weathers in various locations around the campus alone and alongside the Grounds and Gardens Manager; Maintaining health, safety and security in the workplace and complying with school procedures and guidelines, including manual handling; Undertake any other duties reasonably required of the post; Undertake such other duties and training requested by Grounds and Gardens Manager and the Bursar.

Person Specification:



Holds Level 2 certificate in practical horticulture Holds a full clean driving licence Holds a PA1 and PA6 spraying certificate Displays a commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people Is able to plan time effectively and be well organised Is flexible and resilient and able to adapt quickly to new environments and challenges Has good inter-personal skills Is reliable and trustworthy, and able to work effectively with limited supervision
